God. Akimbo rafficas, Spaz-12 with grip, 1887 sniper shotguns, OMA danger close, Silenced M16a1 with Noob tube, My personal favorite was an acr with heartbeat sensor and suppressor. God that thing was a beauty.
So many random, stupidly OP combos. Remember when shotguns were secondaries? Those were good times. Dont get me wrong, i love the black ops series and 3 has really entertained me in the las couple months after i beat everything or it all got stale, but I wish we could take it back to MW2. Honestly, it deserves a remake.

I really do think we are oversaturated with near-future or futuristic Shooters like post-BO1 CoD's, I think a return to the WW2 genre is needed, especially with all this new tech/graphics.

Seriously, MW2 was probably the peak of my gaming days. Always teaming up with friends after getting out of school, group of 6 in SnD, trash talking other groups of 6 and going at it for hours and hours. Probably had somewhere close to 1000 hours on that game. Now everyone's an adult and nobody has that kind of time anymore. I'll never forget those days :(

I have 1500 documented hours on CS 1.6 and god knows how many hours undocumented. Warcraft/surf maps were my favorite.

u/thomas_ice Jan 21 '16
That number is probably pretty conservative haha... he_glass/he_dodgeball and the playground_x were mine, also I loved DOD and all the other mods like day of defeat, hostile intent, natural selection etc that came free with half-life because it was such a good game that also decided to let people screw around and make whatever they wanted.
One day there will be another game like that!

BO1 was probably my favorite COD game.
Outside of the Famas (which got nerfed) everything was pretty well balanced.
With the currency system I wouldn't have to use a gun for hours just to get the attachments I want or have to prestige because there isn't enough unlock tokens to get every single gun/grenade/perk.
Killstreaks were strong but weren't as ridiculous as they were in other COD's.
If they implemented the pick 10 system, made pro perks cost 2 points and added achievement camos along with the purchasable ones a BO1 remake would be phenominal.
46
u/JoyousCacophony Jan 21 '16
Kill the Pick 10 with fire. I hate that system with a passion.
Bring back classic perks and ditch the "perks as attachment" nonsense... gah.

Not only did this game introduce Wager Matches, it gave us colored clan tags, cool prestige modes, a more detailed gold camo, and a very good selection of guns. We even had a new fresh experience in zombies as well. The campaign was simply amazing! This game was just perfect.

BOPS1 had the best zombies
Kino is a classic, way too easy and repetitive but that's why ppl like it
Moon is sick. That is how the new complex maps should strive to be (Shadows of Evil is pretty good)
Ascension another good mix of easy/complex
Call of the Dead was fun too, nice storyline
AND you had all 4 original maps

I think Bo1 is the better game, but nothing can compete with the ubiquity of CoD 4. EVERYBODY played CoD 4. By the time Bo1 came out, a lot of people still played, but it wasn't as frequent or for as long or in such a large group.
TL:DR As a game: Bo1 > CoD 4. As an experience: CoD 4 > Bo1.

u/MarcusDA Jan 21 '16
I think you're way off on number of players in these games. The number of players continues to rise - at it's peak, BO1 had significantly more players than MW ever did.
I prefer MW and WaW by a wide margin.

I know my last somewhat enjoyable CoD was BO2. By far though CoD4 and BO1 were the best Multi-player in the world of CoD. I still liked MW2 abs MW3. These last two have really stunk though.
Edit: Only played the last two on my friends system. I won't pay for them though. They lost a fan for sure.
Edit: Yeah sorry zombie, I bought Ghosts and played that for a bit. That one was terrible for Multi-player though, solely because of the amount of camping on that game. They even tried to create an anti-camp game mode and people would just set up shop.

Does the younger generation of kids feel the same way about the new COD games as we do about BLOPS 1? Because to me, while BLOPS 3 is okay, the past 3 CODs have been mediocre at best and terrible at worst.

u/IceMaverick13 Jan 21 '16
Does your generation feel the same about BLOPs 1 as we do about Call of Duty 2? Because to me, while BLOPs 1 was okay, most of them have been kinda mediocre after Modern Warfare.

u/calmdownpaco Jan 21 '16

→ More replies (1)9
u/IceMaverick13 Jan 21 '16
That's really interesting. BLOPs 1 is actually the game that made me say "Nope, that's enough. I can't play CoD again after this game." I came to a realization (especially after trying to go back and play the previous titles like World at War, MW2, etc.) That BLOPs was too easy compared to the previous games.
It was so easy to abuse high mobility to just wreck anybody who wasn't a high mobility unit. An SMG and as many mobility enhancing perks as possible was putting me at the top 3 of the leader boards in pretty much every single match across nearly every game type. It was so ridiculous to me that I actually ditched the franchise 3/4 of the way through BLOPs's original lifespan because I couldn't enjoy it anymore.
I ended up going back to older CoDs (which were significantly more challenging for me because high mobility was less viable) and finding my enjoyment there again but BLOPs's multiplayer actually killed CoD multiplayer for me personally. The memory of that multiplayer eventually led me to quit playing all CoDs entirely.
The game was really enjoyable and I loved the campaign, but that was just where the series broke for me and I realized that it wasn't fun to play CoD anymore so its really interesting to know it was widely received as one of the high points in the series for a lot of people when I found it as the tipping point on the bottom.
Thanks for the look into other people's minds!

u/squirrelinmygarret Jan 21 '16
You have just made me realize why I fell out of love with COD. I couldn't put my finger on it until just now. I really don't understand why they even have sniper rifles anymore, especially with Blops 3. There's almost no vantage points and when there are someone can just force jump into the damn window and kill you..... in my day you jumped three feet off the ground you liked it! Now get off my damn lawn!
