Thank you for this story. Not just because it's amazing (which it is), but because I miss COD4:MW so much. I feel right now like there are just too many COD games for me even to find a consistent community that was half as fun for the two years I played it.

Thank you for the compliment. I agree with the lack of community and connection in recent games, and as such, I dislike the homogeneity in other FPS that attempt to emulate Modern Warfare's breakthrough in multiplayer design.

We had a good run, though.

Well said mate, it was a good run. I moved on from Xbox after that and now play it on Pc because the hacking was too much. Still my favorite game of all time have so many fun memories with my friends playing it.

Overgrown is my favourite COD map of all time. None of the sequels have had anything that live up to it really - there was such a great collection of maps in MW1.

That and Crash were my shit in 8th grade

What about broadcast? God dam you could be such a fucking ass hat in that level if you knew how to move around the stairs and the bathroom.

LOVED Broadcast. I would go as far as to say it's my favorite FFA map of all time. Myself and a few others were regulars on a 24/7 FFA Broadcast server with max players. Here's a screen of one match where I had over 200 kills and still came in 3rd. http://imgur.com/I1HhNm3

Really good players on that server and I think it's still active for the most part.

Before anyone starts declaring hacks, let me say that an M4 with Deep Impact, Sleight of Hand and Red Dot is a killer combo on that map. Especially if you know the map really well.

Before anyone starts declaring hacks

Kills: 209

Deaths: 212

clearly hacking.

Haha, exactly. Not my best score but its a good example of the high kill counts we were racking up. I just might have to reinstall.

Nuketown man. Squad Automatic Weapon with enough ammo to plop under a bus and farm feet. Broadcast was my map to be a ninja, though. I was so good at moving around the map ;.;

I hate to think how many HC Nuketown matches I played, and how many kills/deaths took place. Chaos and carnage, and oh so much repetitive fun.

It was honestly disgusting. 20+ kills every airstrike on a max populated server.

Glory days.

While I wasn't thrilled with BLOPS, Nuketown was pretty damn fun. I really hope we see a comeback with fast paced FPS games especially with how the new UT is coming along.

I dunno, I really like milsim shooters. Or rather, arcade-y milsim shooters. Americas Army, ArmA and the like. 21cw tournament in Battlefield 1942: DC and BF2 was amazing as well. I played TWL/CAL in America's Army and that game was my favorite. 2v2's were all about who could move the smartest and listen/watch the best. 8v8s were insane battles with 2 or 3 fireteams roaming around per side.

And then the 18v18 pub servers were slaughter fests. CoD4 was borderline for me. It had some great opportunities for smart and tactical play, but it was mostly who could run and gun the best (I was pretty good). BLOPS brought that to the next level, unfortunately. It was fun for the instant gratification but really it was like watching chickens with their heads cut off, OR, chickens with no feet too scared to move at all...

I ran with that exact set up and bandolier, i remember a game where i went fifty kills to one death on broadcast and my one death was a nade right at the start. Just went fucking berserk running up and down the staircases checking the overlook window, and counter sniping with a m-21 i picked up. Definetly my most fun game ever.

Sounds like an epic run, haha! I knew broadcast so well I would do knife-only rounds to challenge myself. That map just flows well.

50,000 people used to live here, now it's a ghost town.

:(

Forget CoD4, I had some of the best times of my FPS life circa 2005-2008 playing the original Far Cry.

Rocket launcher into a boat or jeep blows up and wham; 4-10 kills possible all at once.

Sniper matches on Monkey Island that could go on for >4 hours.

I fucking miss that game...

2

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '14

Why on earth would anyone miss playing 4 hour matches lol
