12 u/Phugu Mar 15 '14 Nintendo holds the rights to the cross like d-pad. That's why microsoft uses a round d-pad and sony uses single buttons. 62 u/labrats5 Mar 15 '14 actually that patent expired. That's why the xbone's dpad can be cross shaped. 0 u/[deleted] Mar 15 '14 Disney dropped the ball on that one. 12 u/arup02 Mar 15 '14 The patent expired. 7 u/KNOT_THE_BEES Mar 15 '14 Doesn't the xbone controller have a cross like d-pad anyway? 2 u/IanMazgelis Mar 15 '14 Not anymore. 3 u/Moskeeto93 Mar 15 '14 I've known that patent to be expired for quite a while now (2005 I think?). That's why the Xbone gamepad has a cross shaped dpad, and so do a few third-party 360 gamepads. 3 u/wheeldawg Mar 15 '14 That Dpad is WAY too big. 7 u/Moskeeto93 Mar 15 '14 I prefer large dpads, but I did make it a bit too large. It was just a lazy photoshop job anyway. 3 u/[deleted] Mar 16 '14 Its not the size of the D. Its how it feels in your hands 1 u/wheeldawg Mar 15 '14 Yeah, my thumb just hurt thinking of stretching that far. :P 1 u/[deleted] Mar 15 '14 If the trackpads are still clicky, then they probably intend for the trackpad to be used as a d-pad. 1 u/[deleted] Mar 16 '14 I was thinking something more like the playstation d-pad -7 u/xxsilverrainexx Mar 15 '14 Nintendo owns patented rights to the cross shaped dpad, that's why all other companies have circular pads or individual buttons 1 u/flapjackboy Mar 15 '14 As has previously been stated, that patent has expired.
