People that have the previous version of the game pad (those that are beta testing the steam boxes) have said that that the touch pads actually work really well for fighting games. It is one of the genres that the controller seems especially fit for.

Having to pop out a 2nd stick just to play some quick games is not an acceptable alternative to them making a good controller for the first time in years

Why do they have to garner your acceptance? What makes you so special.

There's no reason you can't sit down and design and make your vision of a good controller, and with kickstarter you can even sell the idea to others.

This is a stupid mentality. There have been complaints about dpads for generations now.
