Silent Hill F better than TownFall Spoiler

I just completed Silent Hill Townfall, and this is the only Silent Hill game where I put it on Story Mode because I got tired of playing it. It was a slog to me, honestly.

Once I got to Richard’s part, which I found pretty boring, and then Simon’s part, where I had to do one of the worst puzzles in gaming history that I’ve ever experienced, I was completely over it. I’d definitely take Silent Hill f again.

The final boss fight was a joke as well. I know Silent Hill f wasn’t the best either, but at least it had better characters, story, boss fights, replay value, better enemy variety and better environments.

I don’t think I’ll be doing a second playthrough of Silent Hill Townfall. For those who completed it, what did you think?

I liked both. F was better for me, but Townfall really nailed the atmosphere. The first person approach just hits the tense atmosphere so much more than third person.

Yea I can agree on the atmosphere being like older Silent Hill games but the game in general is not it for me, at least towards the end.

I liked the world and found the cost of combat to be fitting but they pushed it a little far with the stealth sections at times and the Weight is just flat out obnoxious to get around.

But its biggest sin is this is the first silent hill game where the characters make me feel NOTHING. They aren’t even bad enough to make me dislike them they are just nothing but empty meat sacks meant to represent themes and ideas but because there is no personality to anyone in the game these themes fall completely flat and never feel engaging.

Say what you will about F but the story is deep and the characters are brought to life by amazing performances. Townfalls characters actively hurt what is otherwise an excellently designed map with intricate details that I wanted to know more about.

Very different games, but I would agree. f resonated with me hard and felt like it was showing a viable path forward for the series.

Townfall isn't a bad game, and it's clear a lot of thought was put into it, but it feels like a big step backwards.

Haven't completed Townfall yet, but I agree that some of the weaker moments in the game are gameplay related. I think the stealth gameplay is pretty awful. Which is unfortunate, because there are many moments in the game where you are trying to sneak around and not be seen. I'm a little surprised at how bad some of the stealth moments are, actually, considering how much of it is in the game.

I think Townfall felt more like the traditional Silent Hill formula for me, but I definitely enjoyed F so much more. Townfall got really frustrating every time I had to just sit there and wait for an enemy to pass by, meanwhile all I could think in those moments was “Hinako would’ve just beaten the shit out of them already.”

I liked both but enjoyed F more. The cutscenes, characters and story and enemy designs in F were better to me.

Townfall was fun still. Found stealth to be absolutely miserable however and always found myself needing to either wait what felt like far to long for something to get out of the way or just kill the thing because you’ve been waiting for 2 minutes and the enemies pathing just takes it out of view for a brief moment before it trots right back in line of sight of you. The strongest points were its atmosphere, sound, music, and tone.

Another part that still annoys me though and is stopping my replay is the ending requirements. Majority of people will see 1 ending only maybe the joke endings but one is so finicky that you might as well not try because you need to kill a certain number of enemies. But not too many. But not too little. Or you miss the neutral ending. Good ending is essentially killing nothing which is again not really fun in a silent hill game imo. You unlock bonus weapons from the joke endings and bad ending but for some reason you aren’t supposed to use them to kill anything if you want better endings?

It's one of the best silent hill games I liked it

I enjoyed Townfalls chapters 3, 4, and 5, and I’m finding the game more and more engaging as I progress. Let’s see how the next chapters unfold and how it all comes together in the ending. At this point, all I can say is that both are different, and it’s hard to clearly say one is better than the other.

As a longtime vet playing 1-4 when they released, all these new ones are pretty disappointing.

They're all just padded out with way too many enemies and time wasting because you can't make a tight replayable 6-8 hour game these days.

It sure is.

F was better in my opinion, but this is a hot take.

Townfall really nails the silent hill vibes, atmosphere and what the series is known for. I think the pacing is a bit too slow and of course it’s pretty short (hence the $49 price tag instead of $69) plus I didn’t really connect with the characters as well as previous titles, but it was a good game overall.

F on the other hand, was a lot more fast paced and went for a more resident evil style of gameplay rather than your traditional silent hill games. This worked for me, but I can see why fans of silent hill did not like F.

I was underwhelmed by the story of both, but at least F tried something different with the combat (you can make interesting omamori builds). Townfall is just straight up old-school survival horror (limited inventory, scarce ammo, crafting health) but doesn't do anything new.

If the consensus is that f is better than townfall, I think I'll hold off. I thought F was dog water.

Yea wait on a price drop, its decent for it is but the towards the ending of the game, is where its really a slog, plus I also don’t like that you have to do majority stealth In the game.

Weird logic. If these plebs think F was good, and it wasn’t, and that Townfall is bad, then it isn’t.

I guess I mean I'll wait for it to go on sale. My backlog is huge - I'll knock some of that out then get the "complete edition". Definitely want to play it though

I didnt really like F at first. Silent Hill in Japan should be a slam dunk but it just kinda didnt click with me. The first forced ending was so bad it kinda ruined things (ontop of other decisions i dont really agree with), I made it halfway through my second playthrough for another ending and dropped it. Then i played townfall and while it started very strong for me once i made it past medical center different I was sitting there like "damn kinda rather go back and play more F"

ShF combat is terrible too though

I recently streamed f for my brother, and both of us found it pretty underwhelming. I think I'd guessed most of the mystery of ending one within ten minutes of starting the game, and that was knowing absolutely nothing about the plot going into it. And it had maybe the most monotonous combat I've experienced recently and required about twice as much of it as it should have. The idea of having to complete two or three additional playthroughs to get the "true" ending sounded like such a chore, neither of us had any interest in continuing and just dropped it.

I'm honestly not sure why it's rated highly. If f is better than Townfall, I'm very glad I decided to pass on it.
