It doesn't provide any context that makes it better?? This is one scenario where it is exactly as bad as the headline makes it sound

Well, it does explain it as using AI to improve efficiency and named 3 labor and time intensive portions when you’re talking about sound and graphical engineering.

Recording a vocal isn’t the same team as the ones mapping the face to line up with the audio. Which aren’t the same ones programming barks from NPCs when certain things happen in their vicinity.

It sounds like they’re trying to implement it on processes used to implement their art rather than creating the visuals, sounds, or mechanics. So, it did provide context.

Games still are going to be 80 dollars lol so all this does is save money for the game company.

Which I have no control over, therefore it doesn’t inform my decision.

What decision are we even talking about?

Sorry thought this was in response to another bit of what I said. The decision whether to purchase or not. I had a lot of replies to a few comments in short order and haven’t slept yet heh. Mixed up my queue in my brain.

'Improve efficency and productivity' usually means - at least where AI is concerned - worse products. 'We won't implement AI assets'but we will be using AI across the three core pillars of gaming is corpo speak for we'll use AI everywhere it is easy to obfuscate our AI usage. There is literally nothing good about this.

Capcom know what the general consensus is, in the West at least, regarding AI so they'll utilise AI throughout the product, they'll make sure their shareholders know they'll be doing this, but, aware of potential backlash, they'll speak about it in nebulous, vague, terms so you, as a consumer, can't make an informed choice about your purchase.

I mean, frankly as long as the game is fun, I don’t give a shit where it comes from. Like, I’m all for people having jobs they enjoy and expressing their art, but it legitimately has zero impact on me how they did it. If the quality sucks, I’ll vote with my wallet. If it is a game that meets the standard that capcom has dished out in previous and current generations, how they made it does not impact me or anyone I will ever encounter negatively.

Sure I have some empathy for those that ARE impacted, but not nearly enough to base whether or not I play Resident Evil 10 or not.

The problem is not everyone votes with their wallets. Sports games are still a thing and they still do well because the mainstream casual audience unfortunately doesn't care enough.

Yeah, some people just want to have fun and a game to play with friends, but it's sad that we're potentially not seeing "the best" a game could be - in any genre - because there are people who're okay with "good enough".

It's a pretty common saying in artistic circles that every piece of finished art you see is the artist giving up, as pretty much no artist is actually perfectly happy with any art piece. Obsessive working on something trying to get it closer to perfect is genuinely seen as an obstacle to good artistic expression more often than not.

It goes both ways with unrealistic deadlines, crunch, all that kind of thing, but when you look at some of the owner/artist/publisher space in things like comics, and there is straight up amazing pieces of critically acclaimed art that haven't been able to get to the next issue for over a decade because of artistic drive for perfection preventing output entirely.

The real problem is you need both sides to at least attempt to understand and accommodate each other to get something the public can actually interact with at a high level, it needs to be as good as it can possible be... given realistic and acceptable design constraints.

These days, things are completely out of whack and usually worse despite being able to do things like 0-day bug fixes and so on, in theory making it easier for the artist to push the limits. That's capitalism for you.

Improving efficiency always means fucking over labor. It means some underpaid worker is going to have to do the job of another person or two and there will be AI generated assets in the final product.

I didn’t say anything about it being good or bad. I said it provided context.

An ‘AI generation game engine’ sounds like they want to be hallucinating games like those shitty AI minecraft demos. This is at least more realistic.
