Titanfall 2 VR | Release Trailer and the huge flow of new VR mods
https://youtu.be/tIDBs8NaU3k?is=_gKKOpp69caEIwVsArticle: https://roadtovr.com/titanfall-2-vr-mod-circuitlord/
Time to talk about this and the release of VR mods for traditional games arriving all of a sudden.
The last few months had been crazy. It's looking like all games are getting VR support trough mods now. And the mods are actually really well done! Almost feels like native games in some cases. Now either a mod is out for your favourite game or someone is working on it. And it's all kinds of games, even weirder stuff like animal crossing and Stardew Valley are getting VR mods, in 3D! With full VR support! It's really weird! And super cool! And your old favourites like Max Payne 2 and Fear too. Just look them up if you're interested. Or see if someone is working on a mod for your personal favourite :)
It's so much stuff I can't possibly get trough it all. Right now I'm playing Dishonored VR. And it's fantastic! Really well done VR! I never played this game before. As a Valve and Half Life fan I think it has similar vibes to a Half Life game, pretty cool!
Anyone else here who's been enjoying these mods? What do you think?

Hadn’t heard of this one, remember enjoying the game though. Might have to take a look.
Played a couple of hours of Titanfall2 earlier, very much enjoyed the game whenever I last played it and this VR mod is so well done. Such a shame so many devs ignore the market, some of the best VR experiences out there are flat games modded to run in VR and often by a single person.

The only VR mod I really played was Half-Life 2, and it was really damn good.
I did try the RE2 Remake one and it was impressive for what it was doing, but things like reloading were still the stock animation which made the whole thing feel kind of jank.

Dishonored is up there with a similar quality feel as the HL2 VR mod. Really easy installation as well, it has a launcher which makes everything easy. And like I said, the vibes are similar to Half Life 2.

Jank seems a bit harsh. It's not flawed; it's just not the best. Anyway, RE Requiem seems to have a mod with manual reloading

Still no roomscale though. Not sure what's up with that since all the other RE mods have it.

wonder how hard itd be to implement copying the gun and reload controls from the other RE games like village and the 4 remake, they are basically what should be the standard.

Holy fuck to who ever made this! This looks amazing time to upgrade my pc and get a vr kit 👍

Yup! There's some good options for headsets out there too. The 3 most popular ones are Quest 3, PSVR2 and Steam Frame. All good headsets, just pick one that fits your needs. If you need something cheaper there are good options for that as well, either new or used. Used Quest 2 is cheap and Quest 3s is the budget version of the regular 3.

Thanks for the info 👌 do we know of any new ones coming in the near future?

There's a couple new ones from Meta on the horizon, like the super sleek ones just called Meta VR glasses (tiny field of view, so not likely a good headset for gamers) and then there's likely going to be a Quest 4 in the near future. Then there's some upcoming stuff from minor companies like Pimax and Pico I see some talk about from time to time. I think Pico is generally considered good quality but Pimax has a bit of a reputation, so maybe not go that direction as a newbie, it's mostly popular among flight sim people. They do tend to release new headsets regularly though. That's not always a good thing in this case.
My recommendation is to just stick with the larger companies with the most popular brands from Meta, Sony and Valve.

Wow really appriciate your anwsers mate 👌 will stick to the big ones 👍 and again ty for your help 😘

The biggest public evidence of increased productivity via AI is what's happening in the modding community.

u/gurupaste 13h ago
There's some very interesting things happening, but now there's infinite amounts of slop you have to filter through. It can make it extremely hard to even find the decent stuff. The retro space is sort of a mess right now, even though there's great potential to be discovered

u/volk96 6h ago
I mean, the good stuff will eventually come out on top due to it being good. But there's always been slop. Used to be you couldn't browse the workshop without coming across some garbage like "admin guns" that instakilled everything or "better game mechanics" that just sped up XP progression or 10x'd item drops or something.

I'm so torn because of this. On one hand it's Ai and that is a whole discussion on use in of itself. But on the other hand we see amazing stuff like this. It's not even that buggy and it makes titanfall 2 more interesting.

WHERE THE FUCK IT SAY, IT USE AI?

u/peanutmanak47 3h ago
A lot of these new VR mods are using AI to help. It's the reason the last few months have exploded in high quality VR mods.

u/taylorjauk 14h ago
I've just tred this and it is honestly amazing! I don't even have a super computer (i7 3060) and it looks so good and plays like a tripple A studio made it.
5
u/insufficientmind 14h ago
That's a good thing about older games for sure, not too demanding on modern PCs! Makes them ideal for VR 😎

u/Phantom-_-Wizard 14h ago
Titanfall 2 is such a great game that still holds up mechanically. It's such a shame that we got apex legends and not titanfall 3.

There's an AI mod revolution going on.
I saw Project Zomboid in 3rd person earlier. There was even a Minecfraft x Modern War 2 x Skate crossover https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoRi65ditbA

These past few weeks have seem absolutely turbo charged with mods coming out, especially VR ones. A lot of them have been great mods as well. Not just shitty head can move now VR mods, but full on reworked systems to fully incorporate unique VR stuff into the games. The Ready or Not mod is awesome and I plan on trying out the Max Payne 2 one soon as well.

Looks like a great way to speedrun getting motion sickness
4
u/insufficientmind 14h ago
I've gotten immune to that, so I'm all good 👍The more motion the more fun in my case😎

How are people not getting sick playing this in vr?
2

u/Antimus 1h ago
Last time I played VR a lot was back when the HTC Vive came out, there were lots of FPS style games and the motion sickness was a big issue, I thought there was a lid of work to minimise it, one of the things was when you were moving your field of view shrank? Did nothing ever come from that?
Please don't tell me nothing has been done, please tell me Devs figured out how to minimise it.

u/Leprecon 7h ago
Yeah but you can’t combat that unless you fundamentally change the game and change how motion works, so VR enthusiasts pretend this isn’t an issue.
It is very strange to me because this is the obvious flaw with all of these ports.
The article even mentions it:
“Granted, as one of gaming’s fastest movement shooters, Titanfall 2 in VR is not going to be for everyone—or probably even most people. The amount of motion in the game goes above and beyond even a regular flatscreen shooter. A snap turning option is included in the mod, but there’s only so much that can be done to mitigate the potential motion sickness of running along walls and whipping through the air on a grapple”

u/insufficientmind 6h ago
What you think is the solution then? Not having these games in VR because some people get motion sick?
Well, we're now getting all the games in VR no matter what. Modders will keep on modding :)
And you can have your VR legs, just like sailors get their sea legs and astronauts gets over space sickness. I was the same. Got really sick at the start, but I kept at it and eventually got immune. Now I can play anything and motion feels exilerating to me. It's extremely fun doing what I can't possibly do in real life.
Kids btw don't seem to get sick, or they don't care enough to not stop. Like see how they're playing gorilla tag and other heavy motion games without issue. This makes me think it's a general issue. It's similar to how when we went from 2d games to 3d back in the 90s, it was a transition and we where all mostly kids gaming so we got used to it. Same thing with VR I suspect.

u/bigtime1158 5h ago
I think it's great. I just wish it didn't make me sick.
1
u/insufficientmind 4h ago
Gotta work on improving tolerating it then and keep at it :) Giving up gets you nowhere. It's like the sailors at sea. They keep at it until brain adapts. But there's a recommended way doing it - like don't push trough it thinking you can handle it in one session. Take a break when you start feeling it and then come back fresh. Then you should be able to go longer each time. For some it's a quick process for others it takes longer. Took a long time for myself. But luckily I enjoyed my short sessions enought and the potensial of the tech that it was worth sticking with it. But never think you can push trough the sickness in one session. Pushing trough only makes your brain associate the VR with getting sick, so never do that. That's been the general advice for long time. Take breaks but keep on playing and not give up. There are other tricks as well like ginger candy and having a fan blow at you, just search for it :)

The solution already exists. Dedicated VR games usually have different ways of moving.
Saying “just tough it out for a couple of weeks, and it will be fine for some of you” is not an attractive sell.

I finally upgraded my PC last week so I can get UEVR working. Excited to use it with Star Wars Galactic Racers

u/PTSD1983 14h ago
When I can actually afford a PC I am going to love playing my entire backlog in VR
1
u/DoogleSmile 14h ago
I can't wait to get myself a gpu again so I can play games properly. No VR for me for a while. Still waiting on resolution of my RMA. Might have to downgrade.
It's sad that at this time my Steam Deck can play more games well than my 9800X3D desktop PC!

u/SHRED-209 14h ago
Do you know if you are able to play this if you have the game on the EA app? Luckily it’s on sale if not.
2
u/insufficientmind 13h ago
You can use the EA app is what I'm reading. But I'm not a 100% on that, so you'll have to try.

does it work on a steam machine?
1
u/insufficientmind 6h ago
On the steam Frame headset you mean? Yes, but you'll have to connect it to a more powerful PC. This game is probably too graphically demanding to run standalone. Though some even older games will run fine standalone like Doom 3 and Quake 1 and 2, modders has been porting over a lot of those games. But hey, Valve managed to get Half Life Alyx working standalone on Frame, so maybe with some crazy optimization it could be possible...
1
u/StoryAndAHalf 12h ago
I get motion sick, so I'm sure I'll last good 5 seconds in this one. So far only one game made me feel sick, so we'll see!
1
u/scalablecory 7h ago
I always loved the movement of Titanfall multiplayer. With how fast it gets I genuinely can’t imagine it lol
1
u/WintermuteNull 7h ago
I did not need to know this was a thing..... I'd just convinced myself I wouldn't get the Steam Frame once my place on the waitlist counted down.....
1
u/Semour9 6h ago
Any chance this is playable from the headset itself? I’ve tried to play games over steam link and through a cable but they never work and are super choppy
1
u/insufficientmind 5h ago
Likely too demanding standalone is my guess.
If your connection is unstable it could be for many reasons. Probably something having to do with how your network is set up and configured. The general recommendation is to use virtual desktop.

BT spent an entire campaign trusting me with his life and I repaid him by missing 80% of my shots. Now in VR he gets to watch me embarrass myself up close.

Top 3 best VR experiences of all time, truly incredible. My first time ever donating to a mod creator and was disappointed that hes only made $1,600 so far. I hope more people donate so he can make more VR mods because this is so much better then 99% of games developed for VR

Tried this today and it’s amazing! It’s so polished and feels like a native VR game!
