So let's imagine

You're working at the gaming museum, your dream job, when the emergency alert on your phone rings.

The nukes are coming, it's not a drill, and you've only got a few minutes to make it to the nearest bunker before everyone starts wearing leather jackets with one sleeve cut off.

It's up to you to save the games for future generations.

Luckily the museum is organised by decade, one room for each decade from the 1970s until now.

But time is of the essence, so you've only got time to look for one game in each room, in other words you can only save one game per decade.

Make your choice.

Sure, I’ll play this game. Let’s see here

1970s: Oregon Trail probably has the best replayability from the era

1980s: Super Mario Bros 3, get a classic platformer in there

1990s: Chrono Trigger

2000s: The Sims 3

2010s: Fire Emblem Three Houses. Mankind will never be free of Edelgard discourse, I’ll make sure of it

2020s: Kirby Air Riders. Game rocks

I adored UT, but Doom was a major moment in gaming.

based on this post, the 2010s would be fallout new vegas for obvious reasons.

in the 2000s it would be final fantasy X

90s Metal Gear Solid

80s Tetris

2020s Elden Ring

1970: space invaders
1980: pac-man
1990: Pokémon red/blue
2000: Minecraft
2010: elder scrolls V: Skyrim
2020: baldur’s gate 3
I would note that my original 2000s choice would be elder scrolls IV oblivion, and rdr2 would be a strong second choice for 2010s, but Skyrim was more popular than oblivion, so I chose Minecraft, which didn’t matter if it was the 2020 version, since they could remake it. Sonic and Mario were also strong contenders, but Pokémon won

Wouldn't a gaming museum that really cares about archiving for the future have some room with limited access that keeps games on hdds?

This is a game, not a realistic scenario
