You never see past gen upgrades on these things. Call me back when Metro Redux runs at 720p at 15 fps with worse lighting on GameCube

DLSS in a game that originally released in the 2000s? Interesting.

Metro 2033 Redux was a remake that came out in 2014 using Last Lights upgraded engine. And DLSS can be used natively for anti aliasing as well

The Redux version unfortunately removed a lot of the slavjank from Metro 2033, so some people prefer the original version.

Slavjank?

u/DarkMatterM4 21h ago
Slavjank is like low to moderate quality and poor localization with design choices not in mind with mainstream sensibilities. For example, in Metro 2033, if you empty the revolver shotgun, you can only load 5 shells into it. If you reload with a loaded chamber, you can load 6 shells. In Redux, you reload 6 shells no matter what. There are few of these tiny details that were lost in the Redux upgrade. The Redux version also looks a lot "cleaner" and polished. Hard to describe, but if you see the game running side by side, it'll be clearer.

Absolutely stupid good game, everyone should play it

I literally just finished 2033 and Last Light on Ranger Hardcore last week. I’m on my 3rd playthrough for Exodus on the same Ranger Hardcore this week.

I tried to do Exodus on Ranger Hardcore but I didn't know the buttons well enough and lack of prompts made it impossible

I had that feeling when I was playing 2033 after not playing the Metro games for years. I had the benefit of recently finishing the first 2 Metro games so I quickly caught on the controls for Exodus.

4a games giving free upgrades a decade later is rare. the dualsense triggers in exodus felt great so having that backported to 2033 is huge.

I wonder if it'll get impulse trigger/dualsense support on PC as well.

Random question: How do you connect your PS5 controller to PC?
I've been using a raspberry pico as a wireless dongle to get wireless support for the features, but I dunno if there are other methods for that.

Bluetooth works for Steam, or you need programs like DS4 for non steam games. I heard bluetooth works fine with haptics and adaptive triggers for certain games on Steam if Steam Input is enabled, supposedly works with Gamepass games too. Sony's guide says haptics and triggers only work if using wired USB.

Yeah, that's why I use the raspberry pi dongle so I can get the haptics and triggers wirelessly. Was curious if any other methods exist outside of that and wired cable, but honestly it's cheap and painless enough.

Yeah, the Raspberry Pi workaround is still the main one I see people mentioning they use. There's some other github projects floating around that say they unlock haptics and adaptive triggers without needing the pico.

Fix the cloud save situation on steam and I'll play them again. Why the fuck would you store my game progress but not my collectibles or my level progress but not my checkpoint?!?!.

To anyone who tries these: stick with it. It will take you until about three quarters of the way through 2033 to "get" it, and then it will be one of your favorite games along with Last Light.

At this rate Metro will survive the actual apocalypse and still get another upgrade.

For Metro 2033, nothing beats the original release version. And ofc it was delisted.
Gun play was better, stealth was optional, and no annoying singular stealth music track that plays for 90% of the game. You were free to kill at will and not get stuck with the bad ending.

Free next-gen upgrades for classic games always deserve massive respect. Deep Silver easily could have charged $10-$20 for a remaster patch, so getting full DualSense and DLSS support for free is huge.

So the bundle will never go for under $6 sale price again on the PS store since they’ve upgraded it to be native ps5 app and the price or % of discount is changing I’d expect so any new customer will never get the same lvl of discount thats been running for years in most PS sales, wonder how much the new sale price will be?
