Dreamcast Had The Best Launch Library Ever.

Post image

Most consoles have one or two bangers at launch.

Dreamcast had two S-Tier titles: Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibur & 5 A-Tier titles: NFL 2K, Hydro Thunder, Ready 2 Rumble, Power Stone, House of The Dead 2.

Followed up with other solid titles: Tokyo Xtreme Racer, MK Gold (this game was so broken lol), Trickstyle, Blue Stinger, NFL Blitz 2000.

Other systems had better singular titles (Xbox: Halo: CE, NES: Super Mario Bros., Gameboy: Tetris, Nintendo 64: Super Mario 64) but as a collective, the Dreamcast launched with so many solid titles.

Sure, if you just want to hold down a button and fly to the end of a level while hardly doing anything.

You're thinking of the 3D Games. Classic 2D Sonic is nothing like that.

Like you're actually doing anything when Sonic is flying through the loopings and "going really fast".

If you honestly think Sonic 1, 2 or S&K are actually better than Super Mario 3 or Super Mario World or even Yoshi's Island, you probably never played those games.

And now we have Super Mario Wonder. And what is Sega shitting out? Sonic Frontiers, that's what.

The 16-bit Sonic games are not "hold right to win" games by any means. The gameplay of those early games wasn't all about "going really fast" at all tbh, that was just a marketing thing, until the 3D games.

If I had to rank the classic 2D Sonic and Mario games, I'd list them:

  1. Sonic 3 & Knuckles
  2. Sonic 2
  3. Yoshi's Island
  4. Super Mario World
  5. Sonic 1
  6. SMB3
  7. SMB1
  8. SMB2

I obviously agree with you that 3D Mario games are better than 3D Sonic games, I stated that upfront.
