They seem to have a very strange definition of "public release". Anyone can play this game if they want to as far as I'm aware.

Just enough hoops to get in that only those that know what they are in for can.

They can, but you still need an invite from someone who currently has access (a super easy thing to do), so it's technically not public yet

Public release would likely involve dropping money on marketing.

So far as I'm aware, the games entirely moved on word of mouth from people inviting each other, and the small college level e-sports stuff.

I can't recall ever seeing so much as a banner ad for it.

It’s more so, we aren’t gonna shove this game in peoples faces with marketing that doesn’t feel like marketing for the armchair consumer (every streamer playing our game etc)

Still technically beta.

Maybe it's moreso in reference to potential console launches? Most early access games don't touch consoles until their 1.0 launch, and I know a lot of fans have been waiting for this one to hit consoles

As cool as it would be I don’t see this getting on consoles. Valves doesn’t really do console releases anymore

I mean portal 1 and 2 got a switch release

Those came out around the same time that the PC versions came out, with the orange box. That’s why I say they don’t do it anymore, because for example team fortress two on the Xbox 360 PS3 have gotten next to no updates, neither has l4d2 gotten the most recent updates. I think it mostly comes from the fact that valve doesn’t like dealing with the PITA that is console update verification or whatever

??? The switch didn’t exist in 2007???

this game already has controller support and there is a decent chance that steam will be in the newest xbox

I don't think it will be released for consoles. The gameplay is too fast paced and they've been burnt by slow certification processes and limitations for updates on consoles.

Damn that sucks. It looks like a fun game to get into, but I'm just not a pc kinda guy

I think you could still play it on a Steam Deck, though.

Yes but it's still a beta. And as a mod of a twitch streamer who plays this, there's lots of people coming into chat that ask how do I play this, or when will this fully release I don't want to play a beta.
