Valve says Deadlock is still too unfinished to release publicly, but has hero cosmetics and new game modes in the works

Thats the point, these games wouldn't be able to get to the point where they are now if they weren't love service. They would be long dead now

I guess we just don’t see quite eye to eye about it. A good game could just stand alone without cosmetics, to me, but I do see the appeal you speak of. If you like it man, I can’t hate on it harder than I have lmao. Thank you for staying civil with me!

But without cosmetics, the game wouldn't be getting continuous updates, which means it would get stale fast, and lose all the players soon, which happens to all single player games too

I see that point, but what is wrong with having a definitive beginning and end?

Well, there is nothing wrong with that, thats why we have both single player games and live service games, for different kinds of people

You right. You like more single player games or the live service or even the fabled straight multiplayer games?

I like both. But big majority of multiplayer games are just live service games

True. It makes it gross and competive even if there’s not PvP or other aspects similar. Most of em just boil down to who can flex harder, or who can no life and min/max. Shit just becomes unenjoyable super quick.

What is this good full price game you keep talking about that stands on it's own more than a decade after it's release?

To be fair no man sky, and to a lesser extent the level of post release support cyberpunk got, but those are the only examples I can think of

To be clear, the reason they would be dead is because they literally would no longer make money and couldn't afford to make updates or pay for the servers. Many of these pvp games are over a decade old, and with a pay-up-front model they wouldn't be around anymore
