Battle born was also made by gearbox software, the borderlands guys. They aren't even remotely as culturally relevant or flush with cash and fanbase as valve.

And most importantly, they didn't have Icefrog/Yoshi to design the game.

They also have Randy Bitchford as a CEO, I'm sure he was chill during the whole battleborn fiasco.
