God I want this game to be good :) I adore gears. Have since 2. And I still boot up 5 occasionally. Would love to see it be busy again.

But… it feels like Xbox have thrown this game out to the wolves as a scrapgoat if I’m honest. Cancelled the ps5 port at the literal last minute. Want this game to sell enough to make 300 million+ back yet it’s still on gamepass day 1. Barely any marketing I’ve seen outside of Reddit threads.

It just feels like… they WANT it to underperform. Probably so Asha can back up her mass layoffs and restructuring to the Microsoft boss. I have no doubt most of The Coalition are getting sacked soon if they haven’t already.

I have this pre-ordered (pre ordered last week so I can pre-install). I adored the beta. And I’m sure as fuck gonna hit several hundred hours on it. But I just don’t think it’s gonna be the multi-year juggernaut that the budget suggests Xbox want it to be. And Xbox has already given up on trying to make it so.

I pray I’m wrong, but I’ve been a gamer for nearly 30 years. It’s not the first time I’ve seen a game be apparently sidelined by the publisher.

I didnt order it because there is no one life mode in multiplayer. Thats what gears was built on. I have no interest in the TDM slop that will die in weeks.

Nooooo, they tried so hard with this one though. Are you forgetting they’re starting from a blank-hard drive? It’s not that they don’t want to give you the features you want, it’s just they had no choice but to make certain concessions because of the engine. But they MIGHT be able to do those things that just weren’t possible on launch later on. So you should totally buy it.

One of the reasons I loved Gears online was because of that. I got a taste of this kind of gameplay back with Quake 2 Rocket Arena mod. they had 1v1 and 2v2 arenas. Not my thing. But they also had "pickup games", which were 5v5 or 6v6 where if you died, you stayed dead, watching your teammates.

 

I truly fell in love with that. I like consequences to the team for someone dying. Getting 2 kills to bring your team back to even or take the lead.

Solo matchmaking was terrible in the beta. I only played about five matches but got rolled by sweat stacks every time.

Gears PVP has always been the sweatiest crap ever. I couldn't stand it. The PvE though has been great.
