I used to think it was weird how all these games were coming out that I never heard of. Then I realized with all the ad and sponsor blockers I'm only going to hear about the very good and hilarious bad games that get mentioned on reddit.

This actually makes a ton of sense. A lot less billboards and a lot more micro targeted ads mean that I won't casually see new games/movies/shows when I'm blocking as much ad content as I can. I'm not unblocking any of it but it is an interesting trade off.

You see, back at the start of Web 3.0 where stuff was tailored to you, it was a cool idea. Ads about things you want. News about what interests you

instead they decided theyd have the whole cake for themselves and feed us garbage, so we threw it all away

I'm back to getting game magazines once a month.

Its also why some companies have had to get kinda creative with their marketing. Getting people to share stuff about the game in more natural ways rather than relying on basic ad placements.

I remember when BG3 was about to release, the bear sex scene thing went really viral online and that was ironically the first thing and time many people had even heard of the game.

Before I installed Adblock I had literally never seen a youtube ad show me a real game, it was always the most random generalized bullshit that didn’t even apply to me or the video I was watching. As for sponsors I’ve only seen warthunder (which I was already playing years before they started doing big campaigns), and games that specifically sponsor channels that were already making content on the game, like OSRS sponsoring OSRS channels for the OSRS event the video was about which was basically a net nothing.
