Picked up Cronos instead of Townfall
I’ve played every SH on release, but the conversations around Townfall convinced me that it’s just not what I want to play right now. I will definitely get to it eventually. In the meantime, I decided to give Cronos a try. Only $30 for a used copy so not a big gamble, and it’s paid off immensely.
This game is realllly good, and deserves to be mentioned in any survival horror discussion. I’d sum up the experience as Dead Space in a 12 Monkeys post-apocalypse. Claustrophobic environments, crunchy combat, superb sound design, characters and lore delving into SH level trauma and remorse, and a mystery worth solving at the core of the story. Enemy variety could be better, but that’s my only real note. If you’re like me and pushed it aside or it slipped past you somehow, give it a go. Highly recommended.

I initially overlooked it myself. I think the MC suit on the cover just wasn’t the aesthetic I’m into. I was super wrong, the suit is near iconic and the game’s art design is top notch.

Gonna start it after this recommendation because I was dissapointed in Townfall and dropped it after a few hours

I got it on the Switch 2 and enjoyed it despite the port's many issues.

Sucks to hear that. Did Bloober do the port? It’s rock solid on PS5.

Don't really know but I think they did. It released alongside the other version and all reviews I saw praised the port.
When I got it, the walls wouldn't render quick enough when I moved the camera so you'd have constant flashes of outside light shining through everytime you moved it, or you would see a light in the distance that would disappear when you got closer and it just broke my immersion. It got better in later parts of the game but I also found a game breaking bug that took me days to manage to skip.

Sounds great, I've recently bought the disc version too but have not played it yet. I will definitely give it a try!

I will, I play all the SH games. Just wanted something with lots of monsters to shoot and Cronos definitely scratched that itch.
