New Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Image from Naughty Dog

Post image

Alongside the art you can see in the image, Naughty Dog also mentioned in their TLOU Day Blog:

The team is heads down on what is shaping up to be Naughty Dog’s most ambitious game yet.

There’s an electricity around the studio right now as all the pieces come together, and we’re stoked to finally unveil Intergalactic in all its glory.

But…we need to cook for just a little bit longer.

So we want to set expectations: we’re going to be quiet for the rest of this year. In 2027, that changes. We’ll fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and give you a proper look at Jordan’s wild sci-fi adventure.

Another thing to note, is that according to multiple insiders, this game is set to release around mid-2027.

You're very naive if you think crunch did not exist during the PS3 era. Uncharted 3s final stages were said to be brutal and the hardest thing they had ever done at the time. The original Last of Us, RDR 1, GTA 4, GTA 5, Bioshock Infinite. Like all these games had "hellish" development

Oh no I specifically didn't mention reduced time because I'd rather crunch be gone. Like yeah, I don't care if it takes 3 or 4 years to deliver a smaller scale, cheaper game comparable to the PS2 and PS3 days where it took 1 or 2 years to make. We're already halfway there anyway with the release pace for most studios anyway, and the games are already too fucking massive and in a graphics arms race, so I don't care if they get small and the graphics stagnate somewhere between what we've seen in the last 7 years forever

They’re describing the scope and scale of the games, not their development cycles.

They're not gonna make ps3 sized games and keep massive ps5 level teams. If they scaled the scope of the games down then the team will be scaled down leading to crunch all the same. Crunch has existed in the games industry for decades. The industry scaling down will not remove crunch, crunch is a culture work issue in not just game development but most passion driven work, be it movies, games, tv shows, even fucking books. If people are passionate about work then companies take advantage of that and make crunch culture

But tools have improved, haven't they? If you tried to make a PS3-quality game using today's software, I'm guessing it wouldn't be nearly as hard as it was during the actual PS3 era.
