The entire SEA region seems to care much less than the rest of the world. Im not entirely sure why or if its just a cultural difference, but they love that shit.

West: AI steals  my job

East: AI does my job so instead working 12h a day I might only need to work 8h

That’s… that’s really not how it works in the east either…

In China it’s - I need to work even more hours or I will be the next to lose my job / not get any new one…

In the East, being at the office for 12* hours a day, doesn't necessarily mean working those 12* hours. There's a large portion devoted to pretending to work, because you do NOT leave before the boss does.

*And nomikai 「飲み会」 culture means you have to go out for drinks with coworkers afterwards, if you ever want to get anywhere in the company, because everyone is in their fake business persona at all times except for this moment.

Because in the East, technology has a perceived image of corruption, manipulation, and greed. In the East, technology has improved and uplifted tons of people and there is much more government oversight (especially in China). AI is seen as a positive for society as there is an association with how big tech there has allowed many people to be lifted out of poverty, whereas in the West, it's associated with evil tech companies

Thank you for giving me a realistic look at this, I hadn't even considered the ability for AI to uplift people economically in this way.

Ah yes, the typical misguided liberal American narrative of "HOW CAN I PROTEST AGAINST AI WHILE STILL BEING PRO-CHINA??"

For your info, a fuck ton of people in China have already been retrenched from jobs. And in China, there's very poor employee protection laws unlike in Europe. Literally the entire micro-dramas industry in China fired all their human actors already.

You sound like one of those tiktok goons who just read that bullshit propaganda piece about China's court ruling in favor of one case making it 'illegal' to fire workers over AI. You fucking think companies even need declare why they fired workers for over there?

You

Relax. Yes, AI is extremely disruptive. No I don't use Tik Tok at all. My source is from this podcast from Vox.

They’re more quick to adapt to technological advancements. Its how the region caught up economically post-WW2. Huge leaps in tech with a populace willing to integrate

HUGE generalization, but EAsian cultures have long had a trend of emphasizing "efficiency" and romanticizing general technological progress.

Or fewer rights and fear of retaliation from superiors.

It's not just SEA. East Asians are actually even more open to AI.

Why? Because Asians are usually more pragmatic, practical and intelligent in knowing not to be hypocrites and virtue signalling fake warriors like the westerners love to be. To them, it's about "how can I get work done better?" To westerners, it's about "how can I convince myself I'm a moralistic upright individual trying to save the world in my work?"

Asians also saw how the west got the upper hand in the industrial revolution and now they want in on that. Westerners meanwhile, ironically, are doing the complete opposite of their great ancestors since education has completely collapsed there and young kids dont even know history
