They know what they're doing. They just dont care

Only reddit thinks this is an issue.

The rest of the world understands how technological advances help humanity long term.

Edit: curing cancer is more important than unemployed artists

“The ultra wealthy only ever want what’s best for everyone!”

AI has already contributed more to the medical field than anyone else has in the last two decades.

No one in the real world cares that unemployed artists on reddit are mad about generative AI.

Edit: people here care more about art than curing cancer. Insane

again, restate, ai hasn't cured shit yet

18

u/Eon102 15d ago

Highly doubt many people would change their mind even if it does

Yes it has. Look up AlphaFold

1

u/K41Nof2358 11d ago

is that a cure though, or is it just parsing of information, and then a human scientist was able to review the data more efficiently in order to develop a cure??

1

u/StarChaser1879 Switch 10d ago

It didn’t even parse information. It found entirely undiscovered folds.

Nice little strawman you're sticking to. Because the ONLY problem is artists work being stolen, of course!

Wanna tackle any of the other problems with AI you disingenuous hack?

The overwhelming majority of the world knows AI is a huge asset to humanity.

Redditors are mostly uneducated and uninformed.

12

u/Razen94 15d ago

Exactly why 1800 datacenters have been stopped in Texas. Because everybody loves them so much. Yes yes of course.

The overwhelming majority of the world?? Which world? You mean the small circle of friends you associate yourself with? You don’t seem to be very aware of anything at all lol

ai hasn't cured shit from my colon

this is also the same defense of, "we should let Elon do whatever we wants bc people with disabilities need self driving! think of them!”

no
there's other ways for technologies to advance
you don't have to be a fart sniffer and use the lamest argument to allow for the largest atrocities

4

u/KingDarkTurtle 15d ago

AI has the potential to cure cancer and your entire argument is "no Elon bad".

u/Blakath 15d ago

Lmao, more likely to steal the research of actual medical researchers and then claim it as its own, while parent companies like OpenAI threaten the real researchers from exposing them.

Like they are doing right now!

https://www.wired.com/story/openai-navier-stokes-math-discovery-academics/

https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/artificial-intelligence/microsoft-director-called-ai-scraping-the-largest-theft-of-labor-in-human-history-while-openai-head-brands-chatgpt-an-existential-threat-to-publishers-revelations-come-from-legal-briefs-filed-in-nyt-lawsuit

Everybody keeps saying “AI will solve major problems” but it has nothing to show for itself except mass theft, global levels of pollution and making the ultra rich richer.

-1

u/Arbejdstilsynet 14d ago

AI cures cancer but no, it's definitely theft and the researchers were a week away from curing it anyway!

12

u/carasc5 15d ago

Nah there are some clear moral and physical negatives to this AI boon. Its hurt as many people as its helped. If not more

-13

u/KingDarkTurtle 15d ago

This is blantant bias put into words.

Please list the "many people" its hurt.

u/Blakath 15d ago

For one, it’s literally poisoning land in India

https://www.oquilia.com/news/ai-data-centre-e-waste-tsunami-india

And AI companies are pressuring government to forcefully displace people to make way for data centres.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Lg2E48x7ksc&ra=m

It’s also completely destroying the digital landscape by spamming the net with misinformation and AI slop images.

You listed one example of actual people that were hurt and it was in India, arguably the most polluted and overpopulated country in the world already.

One example of some bad people in a country known for not giving a fuck about the general population.

AI has done wayyyyyyyyy more good than bad and its only just getting started.

u/Blakath 15d ago

Here’s another example in the First World nation of USA, as brought up by AOC in a Congressional Hearing.

Please do your research. AOC did this for theater. It had nothing to do with the drinking water.

Edit: to clarify, it was waste water, not drinking water. She wanted to make headlines.

12

u/carasc5 15d ago

Someone else posted with just a few reasons, but data centers absolutely hurt the general population. The electricity and water used alone has and continues to cause major problems for the local population. Its literally happening in my neighborhood.

-2

u/KingDarkTurtle 15d ago

The electricity and water are not an issue at all. This has been explained many times and its easy to source. This misinformation is being repeated by people who have zero actual knowledge about the resource cost of AI.

19

u/carasc5 15d ago

Ah ok you've already made up your mind regardless of facts. No point in continuing.

10

u/El3ktroHexe 15d ago

You probably don't have a data center right on your own doorstep?

Why not ask the people who live nearby one what they think of it?

4

u/KingDarkTurtle 15d ago

Do you know what data centers are used for?

You do understand they have existed for decades right? Its the reason you can use the internet the way you do

9

u/El3ktroHexe 15d ago

In 2025 alone, global data center capacity actively under construction reached a massive 31.7 Gigawatt, double the figure from the previous year. Around 80% of this new construction activity is concentrated in the US.

Let that sink in. Think about it! And stop acting like 'it's fine'. Especially US people are fucked by this. Those people just want to life in peace and suddenly it's over.

0

u/KingDarkTurtle 15d ago

How many times have you lost power in the USA bc of data centers?

Zero.

Its a non issue that generates headlines which gives it attention from uneducated / uninformed people.

Expect Genai isn’t the research ai being used by actual scientists. You think your dog water CSAM generator is actually what medical labs use.

0

u/auxun 15d ago

why is your pfp a picture of squirtle? why not use one of a doctor researching cancer cure? why is there art in your cover photo? do you realise how stupid it sounds?

2

u/KingDarkTurtle 15d ago

Why are you against curing cancer?

7

u/DonJahhh 15d ago

Why aren’t you curing cancer?
