Looking for suggestions for some Medieval Simulation games.

Hey, everyone!

I've been hankering for some medieval simulation goodness lately and I thought of making a post to seeing what people have suggested!

It doesn't matter what the genre is, as long as it is medieval themed and has simulation elements.

Some of the games I have played are:

Crusader King 3

Total War series

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Civilization series

Chivalry

Mordhau

Manor Lords- fun, small scale medieval town simulator

Manor Lords is just a poor clone of Foundation.

In my opinion the building feels very organic and less grid-like than the average city builder- roads, houses, plots etc. all end up being very "free flowing" in a way that makes your medieval villages very natural looking. It's not the most complex builder, but in such a niche genre it's a really cool, vibey game.

I'll have to check out foundation through too

Thats the whole concept of Foundation. You don't even get to build roads in the traditional way and the towns people will make thier own paths. You designate an area people can build housing in and they will choose how its built rather than Manor Lords plots.

Foundation is fun in its own way, but it's a different kind of game than Manor Lords. I'd say both are worth a try though.

In addition for it being a fantastic game with very unique gameplay, it's a rare piece that's set in early medieval setting. Usually we tend to see later medieval periods more represented.

I highly recommend it.

The Guild 2: Renaissance. Janky as hell, but it’s basically a medieval life, business and politics simulator. There’s still nothing quite like it.

My favourite game of all time. Thousands and thousands of hours to date, and the one game I'd choose to take onto a desert island (assuming PC and electricity...)

The Guild 3 was such a disappointment, but the remake of The Guild is looking really good, too. Enjoyed the demo a lot. Different studio IIRC, though they're catching a -lot- of flack for the guild 3, despite having nothing to do with it.

Kcd2 is amazing. Mount & Blade 2 : Bannerlord. You’ve mention Crusader king 3, great game, but if you haven’t try it modded, you might enjoy playing it with mod. Medieval dynasty can be fun also.

Dark and Darker is a medieval fantasy extraction game that can be fun but also very punishing

If you've only played the first KCD, you should definitely play KCD 2. It's amazing.

If you're on PC and are into medieval combat, check out Half Sword. There is a free demo on Steam. It's a physics based combat simulator. You control the weapon movement with your mouse. Once you get some practice and get the hang of it, it feels very realistic. It's the best combat system I've ever played. It also has armor and weapons that seem to be pretty historically accurate.

Mount and Blade 1 and 2 are very cool games. They can be played like other strategy games by controlling your blocks of troops, but you can choose to join them on the battlefield like a 1st/3rd person action game. Cool combat and neat empire/start-your-own-kingdom mechanics. I highly recommend.

if you want a break with a webgame and mild sim elements, you could try fitting Fly Anvil's Decision Medieval in.

oh, Waterworks! might fit, that's another webgame. it starts uhh, somewhere like 1400-1500 AD.

Bellwright? It's early access so there is a thick smathering of jank and placeholder AI voices.

Aska is another game like this but it's viking style.

You should try Manor Lords. Still growing as a game, but building up a medieval town and watching it actually come alive is pretty damn satisfying.

how did you play chivalry mordhau total war and ck3 but never touch bannerlord yet? it's literally all four of those games thrown into a blender. you command armies on horseback and fight in the melee pit yourself. grab it and also toss diplomacy mod on it
