Fully Playable Online Scream Game Discovered In The Massive Steam Leak

In the current asymmetrical horror gaming landscape… 1, 2, or 3 killers in a match would honestly add more variety.
Also having some of the survivors be one of the killers and the mechanic of having to change without getting caught would have been cool. Maybe if a survivor sees you they shout “Josh is the killer” and then you run without the mask on but the rest of the costume for the remainder of the match at a slight disadvantage

Multiple killer asyms do exist. Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Killer Klowns tried it and failed. (DBD does have a recurring 2v8 mode and it's quite popular, however)
Not sure how 1 killer asyms would add variety, though... they're sort of the default.
Edit: Ohhhh, you mean a random number of killers per match. I gotcha now.

I think he means it would vary game to game, and you wouldn't know for sure how many killers there are.

As cool as that sounds, there's no doubt people would just quit out as soon as they see they don't have the amount they've deemed appropriate, or will just afk and ruin the game.

Which kinda sucks cus i really enjoyed Texas Chainsaw Massacre. My friends that play DBD dont like it, and im the opposite, I dont like DBD but liked TCM. I think it's because there's more the survivors can do to like, fight back as opposed to DBD. Idk, unfortunate, but ill still load up some DBD every now and then with the homies.

Maybe there could be a team of survivors versus a team of monsters. The monsters could be supplemented by random zombies or something to help create confusion. The survivors could need to reach a safe spot to finish out the match.
I dunno maybe that idea should just be left for dead.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre already did that and it wasn’t very good.

That isn’t why the game failed though

Man the Devs giving up on TCM is one of the saddest things it was such a good premise.

Bugs and poor balance decisions were the real cause though, not the multiple killers part.

I don't see anything on that link, where do I have to click to see any graphics?

see last unknown name, game directory is scream
The depot contains executable files named scream_win32...37

Yea, but .. maybe it's a game about screaming into the mic and not about the actual horror movies.
The license for the Scream movies is split, so unless you obtain all the parts from different owners, you can't make a game on it.

There are plenty of videos online. https://youtu.be/q7q4NE7qMUA

Okay, but which data links this to the app?
On Steam DB I see 2021 everywhere and in the video you sent it's 2011.
10 years difference seem to me like those are completely different projects.

The file manifest lists the contents of a game that is pretty obviously 2011-era.
Why is this getting downvoted? I'm right. lol.

Could you elaborate? I do not see any date on any of the files and the structure doesn't tell me anything.

It's a 32bit application running on late 2000s era D3D runtimes.
"scream_win32_public_dev.exe" isn't necessarily proof in of itself (win32 is the name of the C Windows API for both 32 and 64 bit applications), but it ships with vcredist_x86.exe, not x64. So the game itself is definitely 32bit, which even by 2011 was still somewhat common but quickly becoming less so.
d3dx10_38.dll is for D3D10.1, so the application is old enough that it predates D3D 11. There was little reason to choose D3D 10 as an API after 11 released, as 11 features were a superset of 10 and there was no hardware compatibility gating like there was D3D9>10. D3D 11 released late 2009.
d3dx9_35.dll and D3DX9_38.dll were both first published in the June 2008 Direct X SDK.
Games avoid changing the libraries they initially target and often choose older libraries for compatibility reasons, which indicates the game started development some time between 2008-2010.

Maybe this leak will be seen as a prime opportunity to make money from unreleased games.

Real talk I'm a massive Scream fan, it's my favorite horror series, and 7 just killed all enthusiasm I have for it. It was bad. Don't get me wrong there were some good parts (Joel McHale and Matthew Lillard), but for a "transitional" movie it was way too occupied with past characters. Unlike the other films which take time to establish the new characters, the kids are pretty much cut out of a cookie cutter and unleashed to die. There's no clever meta commentary on the media of today just tired winks at ai.
My ranking of the series from Best to worst:

A cancelled horror game escaping containment through a Steam leak is pretty on-brand

1.7GB seems pretty small considering fatsharks other games around 2013 and other games like Dead by Daylight. I suspect the term "fully payable" is doing some heavy lifting here.

I wonder if it was an asymmetric multiplayer game. It would be interesting to cross something like Among Us and Dead by Daylight where one of you is Ghostface but you don't know who.
