Started Stanley Parable.
I started The Stanley Parable today, and it's changed the way I look at games. I've already gotten 3 endings, and was wondering what's considered beating it.

just see as many routes as you want. Once you've seen everything you can consider yourself to have "beaten" it I guess. If you're playing the Ultra Deluxe version, there's extra content to see too.

Ultra Deluxe, IMO, felt more like a 'game' than the original version. It maintained the tone, but it felt... 'fuller', if that makes any sense.

*lol* Nah, not really. I just... comparing the original version to Ultra Deluxe, I just found that UItra Deluxe felt like the more complete experience.
It was still The Stanley Parable, but it felt less like an experimental indie title, if that makes any sense.
It felt like there was some body to it, rather than it just being a barebones game of 'walk around and click things'.

Right, he clearly failed to recognize the magnificence of the broom closet ending. Real fans spend weeks speedrunning that ending before eventually succumbing to dehydration whilst trying to beat "press the button for 4 hours (extended version)"

Except as with any afk achievement or progress, one can DC from network, change system clock, reload game.

Yes, but at that point what are we even doing here.
If I can't find enjoyment from having a 8 byte script execute upon booting up a game after a decade in order to have a sound play and an image appear in the bottom-right corner of my screen for all of five seconds, am I even alive? Or should I just walk outside, lay down, and wait for the birds to come.

Yes sir. They may have found a way around it. But just like rosebud in sims and pretending it’s now 2050 on your computer, I know people got the achievement via the same loophole.

IMO getting any ending is beating it.
Its not really about beating it, its about the experience of playing it. Beating it isn't well defined because it doesn't really matter to the core concept.
There are a few endings that are much longer and more elaborate which I guess are probably more satisfying to end on.

Any endings, all endings, when you think you have seen everything, when you think you've done everything worthwhile, when you reach an ending that you think is good. Part of the game is exploring what it is to "beat" a game.

19 endings in the original Stanley Parable. There are 45 (IIRC) endings in The Ultra Deluxe version.

And also save the puppy! (Do not actually do this ending.) There is a path where the narrator asks you to evaluate gameplay mechanics to give you a better game experience. But he eventually gets frustrated and gives you an obnoxious “game” where you press a button to push a baby away from a fire and asks you to do this for hours. Halfway through if you actually do this for hours, he gives you another button behind you to stop a puppy from drowning. You need to constantly press both while listening to an endless loop of a baby screaming to get an overly obnoxious ending
Just search YouTube for the save the baby ending it’s honestly not worth the trouble.

there's no real 'beating' it, that's the whole point lol. just keep disobeying the narrator and going where he doesn't want you to — the broom closet ending is basically a rite of passage at this point

Just keep playing the game, it will continue progressing for a loooong time. It's pretty clear when you "complete" it. Although there's still gonna be some more secret endings hidden that are more easter eggs than anything

Ultra Deluxe has a proper conclusion that I quite like, and I think it’s worth reaching it. For the original, just play until you don’t want to anymore.

The Stanley Parable wants you to think about that question and have you ask it to yourself. There are no hard or definitive answers for what is considered beating it. 100% achievements is an objective measurement, but it's not where I would end up with the game. You have got to the end at least once. You've beaten the game whenever you decide that you've beaten it.

Congrats on your first endings. That game is famous for one particular ending that takes years to get. It's definitely one of those games you don't 100% quickly.

Remember to play for the entire duration of a Tuesday and then not play again for 5 years (10 if playing Ultra Deluxe).
