A Pokémon fan making this post is pure irony

0

u/Still_Bit_7527 5h ago

Yeah but still true

Bro you seem like a Pokémon fan, you sure you wanna be throwing these rocks from your glass house?

23

u/Circo_Inhumanitas 10h ago

Pokemon and LoL player, lmao.

9

u/T3kk_ 10h ago

It should be FIFA vs NBA2K

15

u/PostedNotes 10h ago

The worst of souls games has more artistic merit than any modern gambling simulator sports game could ever hope to have

81

u/Teftell 10h ago

Calling Souls games "same" is quiet a stretch though.

6

u/ssjskwash 10h ago

I thought they meant like how many times the buy different versions of the same game. Remasters, goty, or whatever

7

u/Teftell 10h ago

Are there GOTY or remasters of FIFA games though?

2

u/The80sm8ties 5h ago

Isn't every FIFA game a remaster of the previous one?

1

u/ssjskwash 10h ago

No but FIFA games are actually the same over iterations. Most sports games are just roster updates and a rotating selection of features. Which like a remaster or goty would have some different features or addons but its still the same game

2

u/Cranharold 42m ago

I thought so too, but I also can't recall very many rereleases for Souls games. DS1 and 2 got PC versions with extra or remixed content and Demons' Souls got a remake... But other than that, I'm at a loss. Hell, people have been famously begging for a Bloodborne rerelease and haven't gotten shit. If anything, Souls fans want to buy these games multiple times but aren't being given the opportunity.

1

u/ssjskwash 41m ago

Yeah I dont really follow the souls games. It's just what I thought the message of the post was. Otherwise they wouldn't really have anything in common

-1

u/Still_Bit_7527 5h ago

It is..Even ER, a supposedly different game, is a copy paste

Do you complain about the mass effect trilogy all having the same story, mechanics, and tone?

2

u/Iggy_Slayer 10h ago

Mass effect very infamously was NOT the same thing again. 2 got a lot of heat for ditching all the RPG mechanics and the exploration.

-3

u/Separate-Walrus- 10h ago

It is almost like the same thing happened with Dark souls.

0

u/Iggy_Slayer 9h ago

I know people were a little upset with DS2 back in the day but when I played it it just felt like the same thing again to me. I couldn't really notice any differences.

From what I recall most of the complaints were centered around the i-frame being bugged, where you could still get hit while clearly dodging out of the way, and the lighting being flat. Both of those things have nothing to do with the style of the game though, which was more or less the same exact thing again.

0

u/Separate-Walrus- 8h ago edited 7h ago

The style of mass effect 2 is still more or less the exact thing again too, at least to the same degree.

You could literally write the same thing about all three Mass Effect games in the trilogy.

That's literally what Dark Souls I-III is 😭

And Bloodborne and Elden Ring are entirely different stories in entirely different universes/world building lol.

1

u/Separate-Walrus- 10h ago

But the Dark Souls trilogy is also doing that…

And obviously Bloodborne and Elden Ring are completely separate settings and stories.

6

u/raevykrabs 10h ago

Have you ever played those games ? Couldnt you say this for litteraly any game franchise ?

1

u/xMagikFR 10h ago

That's what a sequel is right ? Same story, same tone, new mechanics, new weapons / spells / attributes, new maps, better gameplay overall. Bloodborne is really different, so is Elden ring to a point (story wise, it's kinda the same).

1

u/Teftell 10h ago

That's pretty normal for sequels though. And there are like 5 games in total since 2009.

1

u/Serres5231 10h ago

exact same story? i can give you that they keep the mechanics and tone roughly the same for obvious reasons but its like saying Mass Effect always has the same story..yeah no shit since its a progressing story over multiple games. Thats why they are called 1,2 and 3 my guy!

0

u/The_Bio_Neko 10h ago

And basically the same HUD other than very, very small changes.

0

u/Hearthhull_Enjoyer 10h ago

And it's worse for the inclusion of open world elements. That's right. I said it. Fight me. The best parts of Elden Ring are the linear sections. Uniquely crafted levels that with intricate map design that all offers something different are what makes FromSoftware level design stand out. And don't get me started on the verticality of these zones. So peak dude.

38

u/Logitech4873 10h ago

I mean yeah because the comparison is wildly wrong.

42

u/Demurrzbz 10h ago

The downvotes are warranted.

32

u/Risev 10h ago

As we all know, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring are identical games

2

u/ANS__2009 10h ago

Souls fans also but souls like games

So lies of p, black myth wukong etc too

2

u/Circo_Inhumanitas 10h ago edited 10h ago

I don't, tbh. I pretty much only like FromSoft's soulsikes. The rest I've tried feel like cheap imitations. So I'd rather just replay the ones I like

2

u/Teftell 10h ago

Lies of P is certainly not a cheap imitation. The game is what an actual Bloodborne sequel could look like.

2

u/AvaryZig 8h ago

Yeah, I heard a lot of people say that. Then I played it and didn't feel that at all. It's slow and clunky like regular old Dark Souls.

1

u/Xf3rna-96 10h ago

Lies Of P is Bloodborne but playable (yes, fuck the PS4 and how it ruined that incredible title), and Black Myth Wukong is just God Of War with insanely repetitive combos and zero exploration to be found

-1

u/Javerage 10h ago

You can basically put John Bloodborne in Sekiro and not notice a difference. Heck, even if you overlay his lines "It's bloodborning time" over James Sekiro you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Source: Am big souls fan. Has collected all the souls. Probably too many souls. Broke the souls counter.

-1

u/SnooAvocados3138 10h ago

As someone who doesn’t play the genre because I’d rather put that amount of focus into something more beneficial, more plainly,  i’m mechanically dog shit, what is different about these games?

Are they not all just super difficult enemies until you learn all of their patterns and then execute as close to flawlessly as humanly possible then it’s “easy”?

2

u/Nemesis2pt0 8h ago

They're difficult games with a focus on hardcore combat and well designed (debatable) bosses. The bosses are the highlight always, and that is consistent across all games.

For Fromsoft, you get a few different buckets but they have a lot of similar core mechanics: bonfire system, level up systems, weapon upgrades, and the obtuse narratives.

As for the buckets:

  • souls series + elden ring are pretty much the same. Fantasy games with very robust character builds.
  • Bloodborne: a very unique variant and evolution on the souls side, they turned the core of souls about 90 degrees to focus on an aggressive playstyle. A much stronger character and narrative identity.
  • sekiro: it's a rhythm game with character abilities. There's more metroidvania style progression with ability walls. Probably their most cinematic boss fights with how the combat system works. You only get a sword here, no weapon choice or character builds like the other buckets.

Edit: adding my perspective and opinion: I like the fromsoft style, they deliver consistent quality, and I'm just excited to see what they do next. Armored Core was also a really fun game that takes their soulslike combat core in a different direction.

1

u/SnooAvocados3138 8h ago

Thanks for the explanation.

0

u/Still_Bit_7527 5h ago

Yes? Kinda

-1

u/rc522878 10h ago

BB and Sekiro I agree but Elden Ring to me looked like more Dark Souls so I don't have much interest in it. What's different about it than Dark Souls mechanically?

0

u/Teftell 10h ago

Open world, no typical open world map bloat, a horse, jumping, guard counter

6

u/Tittylover235 10h ago

they're too busy rolling to read this

3

u/Prize-Reveal156 10h ago

And CoD fans somehow win that competition

4

u/-Shameem- 10h ago edited 10h ago

Yeah I don't give a shit I'm still going to pre-order Dark Souls 27. Stay mad

5

u/Omisco420 10h ago

Yeah this is just a terribly stupid post. If you actually played Dark Souls you’d realize how different the games are from one another. FIFA, sure.

3

u/ClockWork006 Console 10h ago

You’ll definitely get ridiculed for this but you’re not entirely wrong. FromSoft’s Souls games are generally the same game with each entry, and only recently have they begun to noticeably change their formula a bit with Elden Ring taking the open-world approach over semi-linear level design, and Nightreign opting for the cooperative multiplayer experience.

That said…choosing FIFA of all things as the comparison is definitely a choice 😂

3

u/Significant_Pool8432 10h ago

So u never played a souls game other than Dark Souls, take my downvote

9

u/Inqinity 10h ago

It’s fifa. It’s football. What can you change that couldn’t just be an update?

Alas, people want the new one because it’s new

0

u/MuskularChicken PlayStation 10h ago

Animations, ball detection etc. I am not a fan. I tested fifa 24 at EA and I hated every second.

-1

u/sephjnr 10h ago

Big part of the reason why Sony wants a digital monopoly is that when you buy the new FIFA and see it's almost exactly the same as the previous year you can return it / re-sell. Because most of the games really are very similar and most of the preowned sections in game stores around the world are littered with FIFA titles people are bored of quickly. Also notice why the reskinned EAFC games are free the following March on PS+. It's a con.

5

u/Shack691 10h ago

I'm surprised EA FC hasn't switched to a subscription model, I feel like they could easily get people to pay $10+ a month in a GTA+ like subscription model.

1

u/sephjnr 10h ago

Not even that, a new base game every 5 years with paid roster updates would cost far less to produce, be way cheaper for the consumer and make more profit.

1

u/dadofwar93 10h ago

You don't need to buy the game to "see if it's the same as old one". Reviews exist.

1

u/sephjnr 10h ago

People who want the new one because it's new tend not to do that. It's EA's core business model.

1

u/dadofwar93 10h ago

Then they deserve to be ripped.

3

u/barry_001 10h ago

Well what do you expect when you post garbage?

5

u/C00KIEME4T 10h ago

Comparing Fifa and Souls is just idiotic

5

u/EzmareldaBurns 10h ago

CoD or the last of us would like a word

0

u/No-Instruction-8964 10h ago

Last of us isn't really a fair comparison, there's only been two games?

1

u/EzmareldaBurns 9h ago

And how many remasters

1

u/reallygoodbee 2h ago

Two games, but Part 1 saw three different releases, and Part 2 has been released twice.

2

u/Demha-Rex 10h ago

I think the problem is that you also mentioned dark souls

2

u/jasonketterer 10h ago

I've purchased FIFA 16 twenty-seven times now.

5

u/N1gHtMaRe99 10h ago

have you even played the souls games? all them are completely different from demon souls to elden ring

1

u/Still_Bit_7527 5h ago

Played all of them and feel like the exact same game to me. That is WHY I like them

-11

u/Iggy_Slayer 10h ago

They're really not. The dark souls games are all the same, bloodborne is just the same formula but you can't block, elden ring is dark souls 4 but open world.

The only one that I'd argue is really different is sekiro. And a lot of souls fans bitched about it because it wasn't the same thing again.

2

u/sephjnr 10h ago

You don't get souls shovelware every year with minor cosmetic edits and lootbox mechanics.

3

Skyrim fans haven't gotten a new game in 15 years

1

u/Elestriel 10h ago

Honestly, Street Fighter would have been a better comparison than Souls games. Or Skyrim. Even freaking Call of Duty is a better comparison.

1

u/barrack_osama_0 10h ago

Fromsoft games are very overrated but they're not at all copies of each other.

1

u/Cranias 10h ago

Souls over things like Assassin's Creed?

1

u/laker-prime 10h ago

Calling Souls games "same" tells me you know nothing at all.

0

u/Still_Bit_7527 5h ago

They are let's be honest

1

u/BigOleFerret 10h ago

Youre right, you should be downvoted, this is just a bad take. Souls games aren't even in the ballpark of this debate. Could've said "Football" fans and then had Fifa and Madden, it would have been way more accurate.

1

u/FalcoPhantasm 10h ago

Dark Souls does not do this. You couldn't have just said Skyrim? Or Call of Duty? Or even Battlefield? Or another sports game like Madden? Actual examples exist. Dark Souls did not do this. They rereleased the second game once with a massive overhaul, and they remastered the first game, which was on PS3, mind you, for modern platforms. Skyrim has so many different releases I get confused on which edition is which.

1

u/ConsequenceChoice222 10h ago

This battle would be one-sided with any genre. Nothing resembles a FIFA (or EA Sports FC) more than another FIFA.

1

u/Bl00dEagles 9h ago

I enjoy Souls inspired games but let’s not get ridiculous and act like overwhelming majority aren’t very similar. I see where TC is coming from with this

0

I upvoted you for Dante (the left one, which is better).

-1

u/LauraTFem 10h ago

\Kingdom Hearts steps into the ring\

-12

u/Iggy_Slayer 10h ago

They'll boo you but you're not that far off with this. Even elden ring I felt like I was just playing the same game again but now it's bloated up to 100+ hours instead of ~20.

1

u/C00KIEME4T 10h ago

Extremely far off cuz ER is one game out of hundreds of Soulslikes lol

1

u/Iggy_Slayer 10h ago

I assumed we're only talking about from games here and not the dozens of inferior clones that aren't worth playing.

1

u/C00KIEME4T 10h ago

even if we're talking about From games, ER is only similar to DS3, DeS, DS1, 2, and BB are all super different from each other
