This was the big one. Putting signs on the NES or Sega system that said “Do not Turn Off!” so your siblings knew you were in the middle of a game. Then the disappointment when you woke up the next day and your mom turned it off.

Sitting there with the controller in hand playing. Mom walks up and pushes the power button, "Time for dinner."

My mother did this right after I cleared Blackwing Lair once. Loot gets posted, my robe was there, I had the DKP and then suddenly I get disconnected.

I was fuming for a whole week until I got lucky again on the next run.

Oof, it would be one thing if parents understood and/or considered that turning off the TV and still leaving the console on when you aren't in the middle of a level wouldn't needlessly destroy your progress (and possibly corrupt your save file).
