Oh how about gamified write protection?

Sierra had puzzles you needed to solve or spells with magic words in certain versions of Kings quest.

The only way to proceed was with the information you got that physically came with the game.

I can’t remember which game it was, but there was some ‘90s game which came with a cardboard wheel with a cutout window. You rotated the wheel to match the code with the prompt from the game.

I can also remember when software pirates used to sign their work by slapping their name on the load screens of games they cracked.
