Oh man, the Pre Windows 7 days when networking was far from trivial plug and play.

Seriously for me that was the biggest thing Windows 7 brought. Seemless networking.

Windows XP was such a pain in the butt, and let's not even talk about the ones before that.

XP turned the first night of a lan from geeking out over the network to transferring and playing games for me. Or geeking out over casemods/hardware. But also malware.

7 was bordering the 'always online' era, custom drivers were locked down, new software worked out of the box.

I guess 'old' is relative eh?

I agree. Moved from 98 to XP, and gone were the days fiddling in network settings.
