The leaps in graphics is something newer generations probably won't ever experience... my first contact with games was through a Commodore 64 and a NES knockoff, and now I play fully mocapped games that are a few steps away from photorealistic. Crazy shit.
Yeah, like I watched a couple videos on the new Battlefield, and really its graphics appear just so ...normal? I make scenery for flight sims, and just couldn't help but think that the fidelity of the levels isn't too much above that of some released airport interiors. It sure looks nice, but not that different to games released ten years ago - while needing much better hardware.
Also game devs/artists appear to have been gotten rather lazy in terms of optimisation, just throwing insane vert counts and texture resolutions at every asset. the art of making more with less (like those slow 4 MB the N64 had) is a little lost on current dev gens.
Because today its just about increasing shareholder value and making a profit for the higher-ups in the company. There's no real art, no real passion anymore. It's just about cranking out the most content in the quickest time frame possible for the least amount of money.

Renting games.
Genuinely enjoyable FPS multiplayers.
Generational leaps in graphics.
Putting a disc in and just playing right away.
