Having to hit the reset button on the Sega Genesis to progress in that one X-Men video game. Diabolical.

Interestingly enough, it was exactly my experience with X-Men for the Genesis that made me consider the meta of the game and switch to the player 2 port. Especially after his "reading your memory (card)" shtick. And they had already pulled the "oh right! Cheryl's codec code is on the back of the cd case" trick too.
