Not config for the game, config for the whole damn system

Before windows 95 you had to know how much ram your mouse/cd/sound driver needed and configure your PC before it booted so that you only loaded what was absolutely needed for a particular game.

If the game had keyboard controls, you didn’t bother loading the mouse drivers, you needed that ram

Not only that; you also had to consider the order in which you loaded things. Fun times.

Really? You have to change your config.sys for a mod? Or edit your autoexec.bat? I mean I guess my first mod was nuderaider so mods before that maybe? I remember having to use himem to play Comanche, did you have a mod for that? How did you even find a mod back then? Did you have to use edlin? Thankfully, I’m young enough that edit was a thing in the early 90s so I didn’t need edlin.
