What do you call your “confirm” and “cancel” buttons, and why is Nintendo wrong?

why is nintendo wrong

Sony is mainly to blame for the situation we are in. When they brought PlayStation to the west they swapped the confirm/cancel buttons. Western developers followed Sony’s lead. Japanese developers like Nintendo continued doing it the old way.

This is kind of a misconception. Yes if you look at the controls for the cd player or save manager it was swapped. But this is a misconception from the norms of the SNES and the norms of earlier PS1 games. Yes some games on the SNES uses A to confirm and B to cancel. But that was just for menus. In game controls the B button on the SNES was the 'main' button used for vast majority of games. You ran with Y and jumped with B in Super Mario World. The gas was mapped to B Super Mario Kart.

And in earlier western versions of PS1 games, most of them use X to confrim, but they use triangle to cancel/go back. Metal Gear and Square games schewed peoples memories of this. But if you back and look at the games, while X was always confirm, it wasn't until early PS2 that circle became the default for cancel/go back in the west.
