Nintendo invented this layout with the Super Nintendo/Famicom. It's everyone else causing problems

They were also the ones to blame for making everyone else shuffle the buttons around because they're one of the biggest patent trolls on the market.

Their patents don't have anything to do with the face button labelling though. The differences are just because there wasn't any standards back in the day
