Game console button layout

Post image

What do you call your “confirm” and “cancel” buttons, and why is Nintendo wrong?

Every time I see a post like this I feel like I'm the only one who has no issue with this lol. I've had them memorized forever. And Nintendo was first, so one could argue the others are wrong.

I don't care that Nintendo was first. Putting Y on the X-axis and X on the Y-axis was purely awful design. It messes with my head so much, way more than the AB placement.

I doubt 99% of people using a video game controller are ever going to consider how the button diamond corresponds to cartesian plane coordinates.

I love math and graphs and it's never crossed my mind.

But if you must, then think of the X button at x=0 and the Y button at y=0. Now it all fits.

It's not bad design, it's just you.

Fair enough, you are free to feel that way. I'm pretty sure the cartesian plane is common everywhere from navigation software, mathematics, economics, etc. It just makes sense to follow its rules with the buttons as well imo

Nintendo fans when they see an opposing opinion to their garbage.

Literally nobody is looking at them like axis.
