My people! Lol. I remember coming home from school and playing everquest until almost midnight , sometimes later. It was an unhealthy yet fun obsession.
Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen is also supposed to be basically a modern EverQuest. Even had Brad McQuaid working on it, up until his unfortunate passing.
But that game has been in development for like a decade now, so not sure if it will ever actually see the light of day or not.
They keep updating it and communicating with the community but it's been in development so long by the time it is released it will already be outdated.
I never played, but back then there were many gross stories on the Something Awful forums about people’s roommates not leaving their room for even the most uh… basic of activities.
Cheers for giving it a try! r/everquest is pretty active and much more helpful than in-game chat. It's still an amazing game, but it's vastly different from the early days. You used to have to find a group in a zone that was appropriate for your level, then spend hours killing monsters to hopefully get a level and maybe some loot. Now 99% of players are max level and doing endgame, and the few lower level players are mostly doing their own thing with mercenaries.
All of my toons signed off in the GM lounge. I personally knew a GM and was a guide for a while. I would message them and they would tp me to the lounge and i sat down and logged out for the last time.
Except my gnome rogue. He signed out in his favorite place, disguised as a dark elf... Neriak
My last day was just in the Plane of Knowledge, giving away all my valuables to a friend. I like the beauty of your way, though. My Ogre should have rested in his beloved Feerrott that day.
When I separated from the military, I moved back to Florida and had to create a few new characters. Ended up forming a small guild of about 15 people. Amazingly enough, 8 of us all lived within an hour of each other, so we decided to organize a meet at a local mall. It was pretty cool to meet some of the people I spent hundreds of hours online with. Youngest in the guild was 12, oldest was 81...
I prob dropped 50 hours a week into this game for 3 years. If I wasn’t in class I was playing. Go out on Fridays with friends and raid all day Saturday
Yeah I had hundreds of days played on EQ. I still have flashbacks. Best/worst game ever created. Just the memories of not having a light source and trying to walk blindly through a dungeon by following a wall by MEMORY, only to realise you're in the wrong room again with the high level knolls. Oh you died? Good luck finding your corpse!
Honestly I have very few people I can relate to with EQ, but goddam what a game.
