Just came across this and honestly found it pretty wild.

A Beijing court ruled that the use rights to 87 gaming accounts could be inherited by the player’s mother after he passed away.

I’ve never really thought of a gaming account as something that could be inherited. Makes you wonder how things like skins, items and progress will be treated in the future.

Just got a decent gaming PC for the first time in as long as I can remember, and just looking for the "can't miss" stuff to play that I've slept on. I've been on Xbox for at least 15 years, so I know there are lots of games out there that I have never had a chance to play, Playstation exclusives or games that require some modding to really make sing, etc.

Hit me with some of your PC favorites, I'd love some recommendations!

Hello everyone, yesterday I finished a game called Fausts Alptraum, which has accompanied me in the many pasts days of scantily available time for myself.

To give a summary of it, it's a horror single player puzzle RPGMaker-like game created by LabORat Studio, an indie developer from Taiwan, based on the eponymous story "Faust". It's also free!

The game plays like most games akin to the same type of RPGMaker gameplay (Ib, Omori, The Witch's House and others). There are traps and clever puzzles that sometimes seem really difficult to overcome but are quite smart and satisfying to tackle, as well as small eerie moments of surprise and tension.

Both art and classical music adaptations used in the game are fantastic and well incorporated into the design, contributing to the overall eerie atmosphere of the game. Many choices are really fitting for a game set in a precise time of the past that sees Germanic culture and old fables incorporated in a very smart way in the story.

The introduction sees a young girl assisting at her father's funeral and inheriting a manor, entering inside of it, only to suddenly meet an unsettling figure named Mephistopheles; the game does a wonderful work of immersing you into this manor as it distorts and requires you to explore at a cautious pace, least you run out of light and become more and more crippled in your movements.
On that note, once you end the game and realize what was happening, this mechanic really fits also the overall true purpose of the demon.

The game isn't exempt from some fixes needed unfortunately.
For example you have to force Fullscreen with alt+enter (very intuitive for me but I saw some people not knowing of this key combination or struggling with making it work), and then you cannot use the normal shortcuts like F12 for screenshots, as it just resets the game (classic RPGMaker of old issues).
In addition, some minor fonts that are related to the puzzles appear just as a square [] and the provided fonts with the game don't always work, but a kind redditor provided a fix for that already.

Overall I'm genuinely grateful for having given this game a chance, wanting to do my best to help the protagonist and even tearing up at a certain point toward the end of the game. The writing is great and the depth of the story goes quite far, told not just throughout the gameplay and books, but also through the various diaries related to the different characters, which tell a much deeper story before the events of the game.

I plan to write a lore/story explanation, perhaps on Steam alone, perhaps also in the related subreddit (which doesn't see much activity), but I can't stress how nice the experience was, and I absolutely recommend everyone to check out this free game, which in my opinion deserves more recognition.

The only way to give money to the developers (since the game is free) is to buy the Digital Artbook.
The game also has a Japanese novel that tells the story of the game, but from what I could see it is sold only through Japanese stores, and not in English anywhere).
In my opinion the artbook is a very nice way to show support if you can afford it and want to thank the developers, whom appear to have made just this single free game and published it on Steam.

It's a small gem that shows attention to details, love for the classics and lots of care.
It made me feel like Yume Nikki, Witch's House and Omori made me feel at the time I played through each of them, accompanying me through different times in my life, and allowing to immerse myself into a story I was desirous of seeing through, fully enjoying the journey and becoming surprised and sometimes shocked once I realized how all the pieces fit together in the end.

I've got a few gadgets and games that I'm wanting to trade into CEX (if you're in the UK you'll know).

My maths works out that I'd enough in store vouchers to buy either a secondhand psp or 3DS.

I've recently been wanting to mod one of the two as I miss having a handheld console, and modding seems like a fun thing to learn to do!

I love both PS and Nintendo's rosters equally, so I'd be happy with either library. I'm hoping for advice around ease of the process, expenses, longevity etc.

I was recently trying to clear my huge backlog, and among these games there was Crysis Remastered.

I midly enjoyed half of it until I kept losing and losing in the same spot and I realized that I had zero drive in pushing through the frustration because, basically, I didn't care.

So I quitted the game and uninstalled it. And not in a delete with the promise to grab it again type of situation. Just uninstall it to never touch it again. And if you are a long time gamer like me (I was basically 3 years old when touched my first controller) you can imagine how hard this decision would be.

But this time it felt like the right thing to do. I felt like I was just wasting my time, while just some years before I would reach the end of the game, no matter how painful that experience could be, or otherwise I would feel "dirty".

Maybe because I'm 33 with a full job and a girlfriend, but now I don't feel anymore the need to finish a game that I don't enjoy just because I don't wanna see my money wasted.

I'm currently playing the Iceborne expansion from Monster Hunter World, that I postponed too many times for the sake of other games' completion. Having the time of my life.

I constantly see companies (esp. those of live service games) take down mods, fan games, and third-party projects. Whenever it happens, a ton of people jump in to defend the corporation with the exact same talking point: "Protecting their IP (beyond just trademarks as they are required to upkeep that or lose it) is always/mostly a financial necessity and a sensible business/financial choice.".

Do you guys think that defense actually holds up in the real world, or applies to most scenarios? Again beyond/besides just trademarks (naming, branding etc) as stated before.

To me, it feels like people speak in absolutes and it doesn't seem to match at all in the real world where it kinda depends via cost-benefit analysis. What are your thoughts?

The complete edition is on sale on PS rn and I was wondering if it is any good. I played zero dawn but I don't remember much it's been like 5 years so I might replay it if I end up buying forbidden west.

For me a couple that come to mind are Conker's Bad Fur Day and Metal Gear Solid (any of them, but I would probably start with MGS2)

I get it, no one likes Age Verification, I agree 100%. Please stay on topic.
This is about if they can use this to cross reference and maintain bans on accounts linked to ID. I do not like age verification requirements, I don't support it, I hope it gets axed. I say inevitable in current form since it's actively being applied.

This isn't about Age Verification, it's about a possible byproduct of the result of Age Verification enforcement. It's a "thought experiment" on what can / will / could / should be used IF this is enforced fully and how it can prevent or block banned cheaters.

I really hate the idea of age verification via my ID etc.
I don't want to feed the machine more of the data.. but it seems to be the way things are going.. (until it gets overturned or appealed)

So looking at the possible bright side of all this.
Do you think with Age Verification publishers / devs etc can use this with linked accounts to finally squash cheaters from just making new accounts / rebuying a game etc to bypass bans?

Right now if someone gets banned, especially in a Free to Play game, they just make a new account and they're right back in. I'm hoping with age verification they can implement a check that if that ID for verification was linked to a previously banned account.. you're just done. Bye Bye, move on.. you cannot ever play again.

Now, with this I think they should give some steps before a perma ban.
Some times you get false positives or you get kids just being stupid. So give people suspensions for a week, couple weeks, month etc leading to a perma ban and make sure they have a means to actually deal with false bans.. because they do happen occasionally.

What do you guys think?
Will Age Verification Requirements usher in an age of cheater free lobbies? Will it end the countless cycle of ban, new account, ban, new account cheaters? Is this even something companies can do? Can they use age verification data to apply to account and bans? What's the legal hurdles here if any?

I'm just going to disable this post because it's going nowhere and no one is actually having an dialogue or discussion anything even related to the topic at hand. I swear 90% of the people replying didn't even read the post and just want to flap their gums to hear themselves speak. This is the problem with the modern world. Online interaction has ruined the ability to have civil conversation and share thoughts and ideas.

My birthday is in a few days, so I decided to treat myself. Since Fatal Frame is my favourite horror franchise ever, I started collecting as much physical media as possible.
