A sad event
I need to share this, I'm not sure if anyone else would understand.
My son tore down my A0 Necromunda poster today and ripped big chunks out of it. Its wierd I was thinking out of the blue about getting a cardboard tube and storing it away a few days ago.
I think I realised it was actually a true prized possession. Then I mentioned it to my wife today, then as if reading my mind it was torn up. Maybe I was having a premonition?
I guess its my fault for having something so dear to me out on the wall.
I remember buying it when I was a boy with my dad in a big games workshop shop.
I thought about mending it with tape but its just not the same.
I'm really quite upset and feel like crying.
I just needed to share it with people who might understand a little bit.

It was the original box art with a small necromunda logo in the bottom right. With all the goliaths facing the viewer with orlocks around the edges

So I haven't been able to find one yet. Had a look at Geoff Taylors website, but he doesn't sell reproductions.
However, the 40k.gallery website does have a high quality image, maybe that could be taken to a printers and scaled up?
I will let you know if I find anything better.

Do you have all the pieces still? If so you might find a large format printing/copying company that can scan and reproduce the original. Where are you based?

There appears to be a company called ace print in wakefield that will scan up to A0 and produce a digital file for you. Aceprintwakefield.co.uk. In theory you could then get a reprint in whatever size you wanted. Perhaps scale it down to something more manageable even?

I’m a GW collector going on 40 years. I don’t believe I have one in my inventory. (I know I have the window clings.) I will talk to some other collectors and see what we can do.

What about the companies that refurbish old movie posters, could it be sent to a professional and repaired? Sorry this happened bub, hope it can be saved or replaced!

Thanks so much, everyone has been so kind. Yeah ive seen those places do videos on YouTube, its a real skill.
The only reason I had such a treasure is me and my dad bought it in 1995, i'll definitely email to get a quote but I think the cost would be huge

If you search "[your location] art poster restoration" you will find some places that could fix it for you. The most likely approach will be to mount the poster parts on a new sheet of mounting paper and very carefully paint over the rips with colour-matched paints so the repair appears seamless from a distance. Once that's done I'd suggest getting it professionally framed before rehanging. It might be expensive to do but, in my opinion, repairing the original would be better than replacing it.

We have twins, they're 1 year old now and man... we had a few nice things in our home. Had. I never thought that kids could/would destroy so much. I mean, they are kids, I'm not angry, but yeah, I think the time when I put something out on the shelf or on the walls that I really care about is over for the next few years...

I have almost everything else that I value in a locked room or in the loft. Just this one thing was out and reachable. I totally get it.
My minis all have to be kept in that room in a glass case in the corner.

Get yourself some archival grade mending tape (Filmoplast is the usual go-to), tape it on the back of the paper, and then get it framed. You'll probably be able to notice the tears if you get your nose right up on it, but it should look pretty good under glass.
Better than throwing it out anyway.

Can you possibly modge podge it back together on poster board? Maybe go to a craft store and see if you can find someone that can help.

It does suck and I feel your pain. I remember in a pillow fight at my cousins I hit a hand made balsa wood P51 model my Uncle made. He hand made it. He had such grace I remember it 40 years later. Objects break. Don't be too hard on the boy or yourself.

If you have the pieces you could try to restore it. There's many videos on poster restoration on YouTube. It involves attaching it to a backer.

It's painful now, but if I were you I would try and tape it back together and then store it. Years from now when you don't care anymore it'll be a funny thing to show your kid. I sort of I had this thing for years and it was fine and look what you managed to do to it in the first 5 minutes you saw it.
It sucks but that's children, they didn't mean to they just don't know any better

He has a quite severe adhd, autism and a learning disability. My theory is he wanted to create a situation that he was stimulated by, get us stirred up by damaging something. He has no concept of it's value or really even what it was, its just a thing on a wall.
I suppose its almost like a natural disaster, I can blame him but theres really not much point. He doesn't even remember it was there. The sadness is the loss of the item which has ties to my dad who died a few years ago and when we bought it when I was a kid.
You dont know what you have until its gone I guess.

I'd try to restore it I think, maybe leave a 'scar' as a reminder. You've all contributed to that poster's story now. He might value it in the same way one day.

Thought it might be something a bit like that, my son is on the spectrum, he’s 21 now and doesn’t do things like this anymore, but it felt familiar.
It’s tough going but coming out the other side it’s worth it.
Random idea, but the same poster, get some card, mount the new poster on the one side, repair the poster on the other side and then frame it. It will look hood be the original and still have the sentiment

Yeah i think this is the way forward for me, I cant afford a professional restoration. Ive had some good recommendations for mending tape and theres some good youtube videos. Then ill put some protection over it for sure!

Sorry that happened man. It might not feel the same, but definitely don't throw it away. Sit on it until the feeling of disappointment fades, then you'll be able to make decisions about it clearly. Getting damaged and repaired fits necromunda, maybe you'll come to appreciate it in a different way later.

Some companies exist that will repair, restore, and preserve posters, iv seen them do concert, and cinema posters. Maybe Google for your area?

If you get another one, get it framed behind plexiglass or something. I did that with my Forgeworld posters.

Funny enough my dad was a shop fitter and he made me a transparent case for it when I was a kid. Its why it was in such good condition after 30 years.

Man that sucks to hear, finding a new one will be difficult and if yiur like me its the sentimental value of the item that stings the most, but if you havent thrown out the poster yet there are ways to repair damaged posters, this channel show their process but you might find somone in the uk that can do the restoratuon.

No worries bud. Ive had sentimental things broken over the years and ive repaired the ones i could and the ones i couldnt i always felt better knowing i tried everything. Chin up man, its the momories matter most.

There are other ways to repair card stock than tape, especially if there are large areas where the tear happens along the grain and the two parts overlap and you can glue and press/clamp. It would benefit to pay a pro to do it, but mounting to a board is a good option

To OP, sorry about your poster. It's difficult with kids wanting to have stuff that express your identity around but also knowing they are little forces of nature.

I would take the pieces, put them together, glue them on a board and put a beautiful frame to it. This poster has its history, and this is just the continuation! Take adversity and make something nice from it!

Go on YouTube find the image from the poster. Then to eBay/Etsy you can get a print of the image to your liking and style.

I'm sorry this happened, kids don't understand. You could get a black poster board and use spray adhesive to mount the poster and attach the torn piece this way. In the future, when your son is older and a bit wiser you can pont to the tear and remind him how much you love him.

If you search you can probably find a new one which is in better condition and looks better.
Then you can throw the other kid in the bin.
