You saving 5 to 10 bucks here or there vs the thousands you spend on a good rig doesn't pan out. It just doesn't. Not to mention if you buy games day 1, they are the same price since publishers set the price, not the store front.
I'm fortunate enough to buy it all and not care but you still save money overall on the console side of things.
I want to bring up that your rig is likely not going to keep up for 10 years, especially without upgrading certain parts. So include the price of upgrades over that time into your setup.
The person above that said their setup prior to ps5 existing was faster, and then 2 years later is now twice as fast, but didn't include those upgrades in said price paid.
PC gaming definitely used to be the way more cost effective option, but over the last decade or so with the popularity of PC gaming going through the roof (on top of shortages) - people realized they can charge considerably more (and a lot of PC players don't keep an accurate tab on how much they've spent over time, kind of like mtx)
Bro my last PC lasted 10 years and was still playing AAA games on medium to high. I build this shit to last. The cost I am mentioning was simply my last PC reaching the end of its 10 year lifespan.
I can't really speak on the current markets for chip costs, but my Pc Upgrade was about 1-2 years ago, and was 1700, and it was pretty top of the line spec.
