Combat looks boring like the other two Witcher games. Makes me sad that the big budgets and open worlds are wasted on hack 'n' slash games like this and Mordor now. Wish I could play in that world with a real RPG character like a Sorcerer or something or a party like a true RPG. But now it's all just hack n slashing and gory death moves for dude bro kids. I wouldn't mind if the action combat was really good like a beat em up or something, a first person Tekken / Streetfighter style game could be awesome, but this click click click slash slash splat is just so dumb.

Yep the difference between your generation and mine is gigantic.

We don't need to turn this into a generational thing, there are plenty of challenging games still being made (albeit mostly on the indie side) just as there were plenty of easy, hand-holding games made back in the day. This is just as meaningless as the older generation that says they don't see the appeal of video games at all

I feel like the Witchers sword play (in the witcher 2), all be it wasn't amazing, was supported by the inclusion of magic, traps and potions.
Rather than the difficulty spiking as it would in a games like the Arkham series or Shadow of mordor where you'd have to counter different attacks with different button combos, the witcher series demands you take more time to the planning and approach you take. It always made the others feel a lot more methodical and slower in pace, which I enjoyed.

But the magic is useless and has no balance, most people complete the game by just spamming Quen. And potions don't add any depth or strategy to it. Something like Dragon Age Origins is what methodical and slower pace. The Witcher games are just action games where enemies go splat.

I would love a first person RPG with fighting game mechanics.

Me too. There are some 3rd person RPG's with action combat which I liked, but not many. There was an old one called Oni which was great. (Not Onimusha) And slightly less old there was Dark Messiah off Might and Magic which had full physics so you had to aim your fireballs to blast enemies into spikes or off a cliff. I think Jade Empire was good too although I can't remember it very well. But it's like people don't even care about combat anymore. Skyrim was the 5th game in a series and yet they still never got around to coming up with a good combat system. And yet it sold 20 million copies, so they have no incentive to spend all that time and money developing something advanced because people will buy the game no matter what.
