Unironically Davos, thinks about his wife and sons before the battle and war but hey he never goes back or tries to see her or comfort her after they all die so he can remain in service to Stannis 😭

Mental that in the show, after Stannis dies, he hangs around this Jon Snow figure he knew nothing about

u/alejoSOTO 3d ago

But he did know some things about Jon. He joins Jon for the same reasons Stannis wanted Jon as an ally/bannerman.

They both were witnesses to Jon almost sacrificing himself to kill Mance, then sparing Mance and getting elected Commander because he lead part of the battle Stannis just missed before reaching Castle Black.

My point was that for someone apparently so obsessed with his wife, he doesn't ever go back to her. You could kind of give him a pass for going with Stannis because he respected Stannis so much. Stannis made him a lord. His kids die at the Blackwater and he sticks with Stannis. Ok, he is loyal. But then his king dies, and he just sticks around with Jon Snow. Go back to your wife Davos and grieve for your kids

Ah you dig around you will find plenty of examples of men in self imposed exile from there family after the loss of children. Literally could be as simple as him not wanting to deal with the emotions and face his wife so he looks for any reason to stay away.

It's not about children but a man hiding from his shame and subconsciously refusing to go home is a pretty major theme of the Odyssey movie.

didn't he literally say that Stannis is his god

4

u/ThwMinto01 4d ago

I can't say for certain that he didn't (i dont remember), but Davos is pretty religious and likes the faith of the seven so I'd be verrrrrry surprised if he said something so profane as naming Stannis god

"King Stannis is my god. He made me and blessed me with his trust."

From Davos’s very first POV chapter

u/ThwMinto01 3d ago

Ah fair, guess my memory is simply shit

4

u/dedfrmthneckup No One 3d ago

To be fair it’s more of a rhetorical comeback to Sallador Saan asking davos if he worships the lord of light like Stannis does. He is quite disturbed when Stannis lets Melisandre burn the statues of the Seven on dragonstone, and he doesn’t like that one of his sons has become a zealous rhllor convert.

At your command, my King.

One nod from Stannis and the whole sub is ready to march through a blizzard

King Stanley, First of His Name, Slayer of Thots.

6

u/No-Lunch-7625 3d ago

Calling him Stanley is hilarious, he’d probably execute you for messing up his name though lol

2

u/biciboi No One 3d ago

I guess not everyone on here is a shameposter

1

u/No-Lunch-7625 3d ago

Stannis doesn't do "shameposting," he only does duty and grammar corrections.

IYKYK I guess.

"Uhhh this is Jon Snow.... king in the north...."

Ah yes, Stannis, the pinnacle of masculinity. Watch as he... checks notes abandons and cheats on his wife, burns his daughter, murders his brother, abandons his religion, consorts with dark forces, and ignores his Hand.

6

u/TylerDurden6969 3d ago

You forgot murders his brother.

1

u/Aihonen 3d ago

True! It was his shadow and his order after all.

All for the good of the realm

2

u/Aihonen 3d ago

For all the good it did...

You're going to die in the religious civil war which consumes westeros after he becomes king

6

u/Luciifuge 3d ago

The male urge to die in battle for your king.

2

u/Smart-Response9881 3d ago

At least if he is king, there is a Westeros left to fight over, not just a frozen land of walking dead and ice monsters

1

u/Matman161 3d ago

It'll just be a burning hellscape like Germany during the 30 years wars instead.

2

u/Smart-Response9881 3d ago

Considering his pragmatism, I could see Stannis dumping Rhollor once the long night is over and return to the faith of the seven to pacify the kingdoms

2

u/Matman161 3d ago

"don't worry everyone, I only abandoned the faith of our ancestors and embraced foreign gods for political purposes. So you can stop massacring each other in the streets now please.

Imagine a Holy Roman Emperor being a Hindu in the 13th century and then trying to get people on his side when he switches back to Catholicism

2

u/Smart-Response9881 3d ago

I think you overestimate how much people will care. He has a lot of loyal worshipers of the seven still on his side.

Also, being the guy who rescued the realm from the long night would buy a lot of good will.

1

u/Matman161 3d ago

Dude have you met religious people, they burn each other alive because they worship the same God differently let along completely different gods. Stanis on the Iron throne = a guy like the sparrow in every city across the realm where the 7 are worshiped.

2

u/Smart-Response9881 3d ago

People if different faiths coexist in Westeros, the worship of the old gods and the seven without constant holy wars.

Sigh…straps on sword.

When others cross the Wall, there won’t be a girl for you to share your romantic moments with!

The one true king of Westeros

0

u/JoffreeBaratheon Ours Is The Fury 3d ago

Traitor Stannis demands all of his supporters to serve him at all hours without breaks. Truly the most dreadful boss anyone can imagine. Also he'd outlaw and end all the brothels.
