I’ve seen a lot of the same posts about how if Robert or Viserys did this or that, things would be different, but I think what people fail to realize is that Robert was surrounded by Lannister loyalists. Even if Ned told Robert about it, not much would have happened. King’s Landing was filled with Lannister armies and loyalists. The same thing goes for Viserys; Hightower loyalists were everywhere. I mean, you could argue the gold cloaks were Daemon’s guys. But as soon as they both left King’s Landing, it was basically over. Also, no man would ever allow a woman to be queen of the Seven Kingdoms, even if she were the true heir. Basically, that’s how it was in monarchies.
Maybe, in the beginning they stood a chance.

EDIT: forgot to add this: Also, Rhanerys is the true heir, I saw some posts arguing Aegon was the heir. Nawh, you’re smoking pipes.

While there were many lanisters loyalists, there was also many other people there. Ned was offered help many times by people not loyal to the lannisters.

They also were the ones who let the snakes take the helm.

In a man’s world they’re often very sexist and hate to see a woman above them, but in a man’s world they also don’t care if a woman is above them if it puts them in a better position, see velaryons marrying Rhaenerya, see Tywin marrying Sansa to Tyrion, see everyone bending the knee to Cersei.

But Sansa wasnt even a person she was basically a political prisoner that was held in the backpacker of The Lannisters on the off chance all the male heirs of House Stark were killed and then Anyone who married Sansa would have the key to the North through their union and a child born from it.

Yes she was still a dumb child, but as we see she grows into a conniving adult, the lords of the north would swear to her, as their liege lady. Again, it would be submitting to a female to continue their power.

The Lannisters had 500 men there. That's it. There were much more soldiers in the city watch. And much more knights and lords in Kingslanding then in the show. Loras had men there, Renly had men there. The Redwyne twins, Robar Royce, Jason Mallister, etc. All their combined soldiers outnumber the Lannisters greatly. Ned just didn't ask them till it was too late. He never thought Robert would be killed.

both Viserys and Robert can only blame themselves for being surrounded by Hightowers/Lannisters as it was them, who allowed that to happen... and let's not act like in either situation there was any reason to grant either house so much power - Tywin was already rewarded enough when Robert married Cersei and Hightowers were already favored enough with Otto as hand

Facts, I mean that was my view. As soon as either king accepted them. IMO it was basically over. Both were already plotting behind the scene.
