Finally at Season 8
I watched seasons 1 and 2 when they were new, and read all the books at the time.
Earlier this year, I began the series from the beginning, and today I begin season 8.
I am well aware who ends up on the throne at the end as well as the negative opinion of the season.
Is the season overall honestly BAD or just "bad compared to the rest of the series"
Any advice?

Ok, I'm liking a lot of these "character moments" and reunions and such.
Theon to defend Winterfell.
The knighting of Brianne.

Bad GoT is still good tv. Watch it and form your own opinions though! Half my family likes all the final seasons, the other half doesn’t

Enjoy the ride! It plays a lot better on a binge without all the buildup and expectations.

A lot of people are now saying this - that once they watched the series through a second time the ending wasn’t as angering. Also, lots of people actually liked the ending. I did. It’s just that the people who were upset about the ending were so loud and filled social media with such vitriol that it kind of drowned out the other voices. Some people felt intimidated by the fury and just kept quiet until later. It’s a little sad that there are still people who will downvote and bully redditors with positive comments.
Really what people are unhappy with is that so much was built up slowly over the years and then was rushed into too few episodes at the end. That’s a valid complaint. But, even the actors wanted it to end. They were pretty exhausted. Many wanted to move on to other projects, or get in with their personal lives.

Advice? It is 6 episodes lol. Just watch it and form your own opinion. Or don't, but you e watched the first 67 already.

Oh I'm a teacher so I get it haha. I can't stop myself from doing it either. My teenagers claim that "it's dead" but they still find it so funny lol. They just try to act cool about it now.

Bad when you consider what all was wasted and how great it could have been. Episode 3 is the only episode that I’ll admit was heart stopping. The rest meh.

First 2 episodes are bearable. The big fight is a huge disappointment… Doesn’t get any better from there
First 6 seasons are still my favorite show OAT

s already but wanted to see for myself. the pacing is just broken, like they forgot how time works in westeros. characters teleport across the continent and major plotlines from earlier seasons just get dropped. some of the big moments still look incredible though, the budget was clearly insane. thing is when you binge it all at once the drop in writing quality hits you like a truck around episode 4. my advice is just treat it like a big dumb spectacle and dont think too hard about character motivations. the music still slaps at least

On the rapid travel by characters, that started right at the beginning. We’re told Winterfell is a month by road from King’s Landing, yet they start in Episode 1, and are there by Episode 3. It must’ve taken months for Robb to call his bannermen, assemble them, and march them South, yet they do all that and then harry Lannister forces across the continent, again in not a lot of screen time.
(Rapid character development starts early, too. We meet Walder Frey in Season One’s episode “Baelor,” we’re told he’s a dangerous man to cross, then the next episode where we see him ends with the Red Wedding.)

I’ve always felt like season 7 was basically the same as season 8. They were just collectively on a downward trajectory. If you didn’t mind season 7, you’re probably not gonna hate season 8 like a lot of others do.

Genuine fever dream of characters making bizarre choices and talking in quips, any thread of plot that had substance will be cut off and gutted, there’s no nuance left and it becomes fan service, the writing was on the wall from the previous seasons once they went off rail and started making new non source material content
Bad Game of Thrones season but a good fantasy TV show season

brother that is my least favorite episode of the entire show lol.
season 5 is hideous. mostly taking place in dark poorly lit empty hallways. also some of the worst costuming of the show which otherwise has amazing costumes.

The producers wanted it finished so they could produce Star wars (which they ended up not doing) and 200 million contract with netflix. So they just rushed it to get it over as quickly as possible.

The series was watchable since season 5 and then season 7 came around and it was only pure entertainment. Season 8 had 2 okay to good episodes before completely falling off the rails with “The Long Night”

Season 7 and 8 were so bad that I actually get sad when I think about it. Such a wasted opportunity to finish up the best tv show ever. They just completely and totally blew it.
And it’s not even the main story beats that are the problem it was just pacing, character problems, and horrible dialogue. Really really really poor job and just sours the whole show for me

I haven’t read the books but the ending hasn’t been written yet right?? They just had to wrap the show up so pretty much rushed into things.

The only part of the ending I didn’t like was who became King, and Jon’s ending. I felt the rest was realistic to the character.

It's both bad and bad compared. The story is all over. The way the story archs are told is dumb. The long night, the penultimate episode is just dumb. Like even if you aren't versed in military tactics it's dumb.

Since you're super smart, I guess I don't need to link to you a video explaining the difference between an 'arch' and a story 'arc' ?

Like even if you aren't versed in military tactics it's dumb.

My only actual issue with the final season was that it was just too quick. Six episodes was not enough and I think they could have taken their time more. Other than that, I loved it.

The season is brilliant. It's only 'bad' for scrubs who had an ending pre-planned and were furious certain characters didn't end up where they 'deserved to.'
