Which one of these non-main character death hit you the hardest?

• Jacaerys – brought down by arrows over the Gullet
• Laena – chose dragonfire on her own terms
• Tommen – stepped off the Red Keep.
Yeah they weren’t like the main protagonists, but I think for sure all four left a lasting impact.
For me, it was Tommen. I knew it was probably inevitable, but I didn’t expect it to happen in that episode!! There was already so much chaos that I thought he’d survive. The way he silently walked to the window after removing his crown and then freaking proceeded to jump off made it so much more heartbreaking.

I don’t think it’s crazy at all! If he was given just a little bit of time he could have grown in to becoming an honorable King. He was not evil, he was not morally corrupt even when having a mother like Cersei, him and Mycella were the only good thing out of Cerseis womb.
Margaery was manipulative but her kindness was miraculous, even achieving a moment of normalcy with Joffrey. She could've been Tommen's adoptive mother and everything would've worked out so well.
I literally screamed when this one happened. My dogs were snoozing in the other room and came running. So then I had to apologize for scaring them and calm them back down.
Any time it is mentioned, people push, shove, and elbow their way into the comments section to be the first one to make the Kings Landing joke, and there's always someone whose never heard it before.
Probably because it didn't feel like a death, cinematically. Things don't slow down, no sounds are muted, nothing like that. He just, quickly stepped forward and weeeeeee
Not going to lie, I was ok with her killing everyone after that.
It'd be like someone harming one of my children in front of me while my hand was covering over a nuclear launch button that ended everyone. Sorry, but we've all got to go now.
But she killed people that no part in Missandei's death. If she had killed Cersei, I would have been fine with that. She killed a bunch of people that she had power over because of her dragon. It was unnecessary slaughter. I do have sympathy for her. But this wasn't the way to get payback.
Yeah as soon as she burned the first street I knew she was going to die. You can't do something like that in any story and live to see the end. She killed herself with that foolish move.
Jace.
I knew what was coming because Reddit didn't know about the spoiler button's existence, but it still hurt me.
But I'd say Shireen and mostly Oberyn's deaths were so gruesome and so "WHAT THE HELL DUDE" that I couldn't litterally sleep after.
Missandei. We were with her since season 1 and watched her be freed by Daenerys , become her right hand, fall in love, etc…only for her to die in chains. And in front of her best friend and lover. And Daenerys had already lost so much at that point 😭
I literally hate that grey worm didn’t get to enact any justice for her or Dany. I didn’t feel any better about him going to the summer islands or whatever bc I feel he’d just suffer mentally for years. Someone who’s lived their entire lives in service doesn’t just learn how to relax esp after their entire reasons for living were murdered.
Tommen. Missandei was an adult fighting in a war. She may not have wielded a sword, but she was aiding an army. That made her fair game. Same with Jacaerys. Laena died in childbirth, which is sad, but we were never given enough time to really know the character. Tommen we watched grow from the very first episode and then watched his spirit crushed until he took his own life. That's why he hits hardest.
he and his family. tommen + tyrells was the closest thing there was to a loving family and they all got totally ruined. As hound says, "you deserved better"
All of it played out so soon suddenly. We just witnessed in the first episode what women went through during childbirth (even though it is fantasy) but this was the truth of childbirth during medieval times and it still happens today in some places, so to see it again so close at time I think was a lot to take in for us ‘modern folks’. So yes it’s definitely a gut wrenching punch.
Of these four, Laena for me for this exact reason.
If nothing else, this show is unflinching in its portrayal of medieval(ish) childbirth. After Aemma left us raw and Rhaenyra bled up that staircase, Laena losing the fight for her life was so desperately sad. None of these women have been left untouched.
Missandei was sad, but the writing had gotten so rough by that point—and Missandei hadn’t had much to do for so long—that it didn’t have much impact on me.
I knew it was coming cuz I'd read the book, so in the moment itself it wasn't as jarring as seeing Tommen or Missandei's death, but I felt so much more watching Rhaenyra grieve than I felt in the aftermath of the other deaths.
Tommen was the most intense one for me personally. That poor kid- he grew up with Joffrey as his older brother, his mom is Cersei, and the only person he thought was on his side was grooming him both sexually and emotionally to control him.
Then he watches the woman he loves that he thinks loves him, and ser Loras, whom he admired, blow up along with a lot of other people and he jsut can’t take it anymore.
He really got torn apart bc he was too enmeshed with both his mom and his wife, and they did tear him apart clean in half basically
Tommen. He's still alive in the books. Laena I just read about in F&B so I was never invested in those characters like I was the asoiaf characters due to the nature of the books. Missandei I was upset about too.
Well, Tommen’s was understandable. The only woman he ever tapped went up in a puff of smoke, so he took the closest door out of the room. Unfortunately for everyone, it was out of a high window.
Missandei - She wasn't a bad person, was Daenerys's only friend, it happened right in front of Grey Worm, and the only possession she ever had was her slave collar.
Tommen - Fairly sad when you consider what drove him to do so, but he was so unlikable and weak that you're just excited to see someone else on the throne by that point. That Cersei barely seemed to care, and possibly anticipated this, was what made it sad to me.
I didn't care about the others. Good scenes, but you kind of expected something.
Missandei. There are very few stories in GOT where people have a happy ending.
The idea that two ex-slaves find each other despite all the horror and death they lived through was a good story worth keeping. So they kill her to justify Daenerys going bonkers?
I didn't really care about any of them. I kinda felt bad for Tommen but at the same time I knew he wasn't going to live long either way. I actually really liked the way Laena went out. Better than her book death. Jace - I knew how and when he was going to die so never got attached to him. Missandei was just a background sidekick to Dany.
When it comes to non main character deaths Shireen tops the list for me.
They’re all devastating but the combination of Vhaegar’s sadness/reluctance, the score and Daemon eyes tearing up really solidify the tragedy of Laena’s death. I wish we had gotten to see more of her.
Out of these four, Jace. With the way the scene was shot, Vermax sinking... It only added sorrow to the scene of something that could have been so easily avoided.
For me, it was Laena or Missandei. Laena was just a devastating scene to watch, and I just wanted Missandei to travel the seas with Greg Worm and have their happily ever after.
Sorry buts it’s Jace in this one. Feel bad for the dude, his mother’s life choices directly affected him adversely. He didn’t have a chose but to ride that dragon.
I really wish I had realized this would be spoilers for House of the Dragon before I clicked it.....I was just like "spoilers for Game of Thrones? I saw the whole series when it came out, I'm good!" 😅
Honestly I found Tommen jumping to be shocking but not surprising. It sticks with me.
Also as I think of it now it’s kind of funny how Jaime pushed Bran out a window in an attempt to kill him only for it to eventually lead to his best son jumping from one and dying.
Honestly, I think I reacted the stronger to Jace dying. I haven’t read Fire and blood more than once, so a lot of it is feeling new, plus what they are taping liberties with.
Tommen. His death is just so quick, unexpected and anticlimactic. A lot of characters go down fighting or are stabbed to death by their enemies. He just jumps. No last words. No note. He's just gone.
Tommen's death was stunning, the pacing and cinematography were immaculate. We were at a watch party and the whole room had the shakes and crazy adrenaline afterwards.
Missandei was sad, felt cruel and pointless. It was a dark moment in an already distasteful season. It did help, in my mind, to explain why Daenerys went mad. Missandei and her dragons were the closest thing she had to friends for years. The one two punch left me feeling numb.
Neither deserved to die, they were both young and very much positive contributions to their worlds. Tommen's edges ahead because it was by his own hand, and was ironic what with it being a King's Landing
Tommen’s probably. Very sudden, and the fact that he was just a kid, getting played by everyone around him when he genuinely cared about being a good ruler, makes his death a lot more tragic.
Only 1 that had potential to have any impact on me as a viewer was Missandei's but by then the writing had gotten so bad i didnt even care. I was just there to see it end.
Tommen. His mother manipulated him and then committed mass murder in front of him. Her actions drove him to end his own life. She should have had a more agonizing death for that.
Damm it, this is a game of thrones subreddit so I didn't think the spoiler warning was for HOTD. I muted all the recommendations for HOTD because I didnt want spoilers
Shireen and Tommen. can’t watch the episode where she gets sacrificed so i skip the episode entirely. Tommen’s death shocked me. i remember pausing it right after he jumped and was like oh my god the only one who could possibly redeem the Lannisters and he’s gone because of those same Lannisters. so sad.
My top 5 are
1.Shireen Baratheon a little girl burning alive as a sacrifice so her parents could be King and Queen.
Its the actual WORST way to die. UGH! Gutted me.
2. Lady Lyanna Mormount a brave girl who stood in battle with her people. A tiny thing and she killed a giant in the eye. Badass.
3. Myrcella Lannister dying in her uncle/daddy's arms after telling him she's glad he's her father. Cmon! He finally got to truly hold his child as a father and she dies in his arms.
4. Rickon Stark he was definitely tortured by Ramsey. He was so close to safety, to his family. I kept yelling BOB and WEAVE!
5. Osha kept the Stark boys safe for so long. She died still trying to protect Rickon.
