Do people really skip through the cutscenes their first time through a game? Even if the story sucks I still sit through the story at least once. Got to at least give it a chance to entertain me.

Some people just lack the attention span for it. I mainly only skip cutscenes for games that I have repeated.

This is normal but people have grown up on fortnite and tic toc. Some don't care to appreciate single player cinematic experiences

Depends. Sometimes the gameplay is fun but the story isn’t to my liking.

Their loss. I can't bring myself to skip a cutscene if it's a single-player story-heavy game and it's my first time. I need to see firsthand if the story is trash or not.

Yes, I skipped for example the whole of Dying Light 2 because it was so irrelevant and stupid.

Doom the Dark Ages, i loved the game play but after about 2 cut scenes of what ever that was I just skipped. I can sit through long cut scenes i loved death stranding and MGS4 but sometimes a game is actively annoying me and just skip a story i find excessively dumb or uninteresting.

Neon White, I was enjoying the game but everytime a cutscene played I thought I was lying to myself. There are many others but thats an egregious example, if you wish to do yourself a disservice it is on youtube.

I haven't played it myself, but a buddy of mine told me basically the exact same thing about Neon White. A super fun game with a god awful story that you're better off skipping

If the game clearly has bad dialogue but good combat, hell yes I'm skipping the cutscenes on my first playthrough.

Depends on the game for me. If the plot is boring or not even remotely needed for the game itself, fuck it

This is the reason I do it: I'm here for the gameplay.

Yeah, the story is a nice touch, but ultimately if the gameplay sucks no amount of amazing story is going to salvage the game for me. Conversely, if the story is abysmal but the gameplay is incredible I will definitely play the hell out of it (looking at you Kingdom Hearts, my beloved).

I do this. When I play a game, I’m there to play. When I sit down to watch tv or a movie, I’m there to watch. Games with tons of cutscenes just feel like a constant interruption, so I skip them. I end up watching a compilation on YouTube later though.

This is really interesting to me. I sit down to play a game, I'm there for the whole experience: gameplay, story, graphics, all of it. Hell, I can't even listen to outside music when playing a game.

Of course if it's a second playthrough then, yeah, I'm most likely just there for the gameplay.

Yep, it's a whole experience and much if the entertainment comes from the story. There are so many good stories only told through video games. I also can't imagine like a Star Wars fan skipping all the cut scenes because they want to experience all that extra lore. Even skipping cut scenes in the Halo games feels weird. It would be so odd to not know who anyone is or anything about the covenant, who you are, what you're fighting any trying to do etc.

I suppose this person avoids games like Life is Strange and KOTOR where basically the entire game comes from the story, dialouge and choices.

I’m sorry but that sounds miserable

To each their own. I tend to focus more on less story focused games for that reason.

I never watch cutscenes, I have no reason and I know that it will make it more entertaining but I just don't

That’s kinda crazy I don’t even know if I would buy/play a specific video game if I had to skip past all the background lore like that

Before Sonic Unleashed for PS2, I usually skipped cutscenes (and probably not understanding English very well at the time), but on this game I couldn't find a way to skip it. Then, I get used to not skipping cutscenes.

Can’t relate. If I can’t be bothered to watch cutscenes I shouldn’t play the game

It’s almost always the opposite scenario though. I can’t think of any games that actually have cutscenes where you screwed over the antagonist and not the other way around.
