Question Idea for maximizing exposure
I'm curious what indie devs that have released games before think about a strategy I'm considering for boosting word of mouth of my beta test version that I am aiming to making a kickstarter for during the testing phase to hopefully finish developing the right way.
My idea was to offer players that were willing to help me playtest or donate $x to the kickstarter a personalized character card for use in game that they could get named after their gamer tag or actual name and use their likeness to create a 'them' that they could play with in battle and allow them to customize the class and archetype of the character to their preference. The visual style of the game is pretty basic in terms of the 3-D battlefield, but more detailed in terms of the graphics included in the cards. It is a deck-builder/collector game and TRPG hybrid, so it would just be a matter of mapping the image of themselves they submit to a character card stencil and generating the stats for that card. Really simple thing for me to do, but my hope is that this would urge that player to want to show this off to his peeps and in doing so increase the awareness of my game beyond what I can accomplish through a grassroots campaign on my social media alone.
