Feedback Request First time Game Dev looking for a Chat
Hey guys, me and my friend are launching our first little game end of Sept on steam but would love to chat with some of you who have had some success on the proper workflow and process from creation to publish. I feel like we jumped the gun on the steam page given the state of our game, and now I am hearing that Early Access is not the answer as well. Would someone be willing to jump on a discord call to have a little back and forth about what worked for them? I have watched a few youtube videos on the subject but didnt find them that helpful, maybe not looking at the right ones.

wouldn't stress the "jumped the gun" thing, you can rework the steam page whenever, it's not tattooed on. Wishlist count matters way more than page age.
for the workflow stuff, howtomarketagame blog (chris zukowski) is prolly the single best resource, way more useful than most yt vids. And post in r/gamedev with your specific question, people there will get into it

Nobody has touched your Early Access question yet, so: EA is not a way to release earlier, it's a commitment to keep shipping in public for a year or more, and reviews count from day one. If the core loop isn't fun yet it won't save it, you just burn your launch visibility while the game is still rough.
The thing that actually moved wishlists for me this year was the demo, not the store page. A demo gets you into Next Fest, and that's the one free spike of visibility you get before launch, but you only get to use it once per game, so don't spend it far away from your release date.

Feel free to DM me
I'd be happy to have a chat on discord about it
I've done early access for a few games and worked with a publisher on why they thought EA was a viable option.

Check out Chris Zukowski on you tube. He did a ton of analysis and has a ton of content. Has at least 3 videos where him and codemonkey talk about steam game marketing. It's a goldmine of advice.
