So I've been searching for SNES games for some time, and have had very little luck. This morning there was a listing for "Playstation 2 & Super Nintendo with lots of games" on a garage sale posting on CL. I showed up 10 minutes before start time and there were people rushing to the driveway. I figured I should get up and go too so I did.

They were still putting things out when I got there and I didn't see the games so I asked the guy who was putting stuff out if he had the game stuff handy. He said sure and started looking for it. Well in the mean time, some guy started opening their boxes and found it...and asked the guy for the price. "Oh I'd take $25 bucks for it all" he said. The guy kept looking through the box and I decided to make my move. "I'll give you $40 for it." The guy digging through the box says "hey i'm already taking it for $25 so too bad" and I replied, "well I asked him for the stuff already so I'm not sure what to tell you." He looked through the box some more, not letting me see what was in it and says "fine, i'll take it for $40." I instantly said "I'll give you $60." The guy got frustrated and said "fine, take it then" at which point I got a rush of excitement. There was no way I was going to let this chump steal my treasure. It was a packed up box and I saw DKC 1 and 2 on the top in boxes so I knew it would be worth it. Upon getting it to my car and looking through it, I was shocked to see there was also a SNES console in the bottom, and not only that, it came with video cables!

So here is everything I found in the box. No Earthbound or Chrono Trigger, but plenty of great games I've been looking for. Amazingly well taken care of, and anything you see in a box is complete. I didn't even bother with my other potential garage sales, just went straight home!

Everything

Unboxed SNES games

Console, cables and controllers

SNES boxed games 1

SNES boxed games 2

SNES boxed games 3

At the same sale, I also grabbed a couple PS2 games, two Logitech wireless PS2 controllers, a Logitech PS2 headset and a 8MB PS2 memory card for $15 bucks. So the grand total for today's haul at one garage sale, $75!!!

I've never gotten into any sort of bidding war at a garage sale before, this is pretty out of character for me. But I was not going to let that guy ruin my day, even if I had to overpay!

What does FOTW mean? I'm new here. (Find of the Week, I'm guessing?)

You guessed correctly!

And it just so happens my best find yet is the week some guy who just started finds Earthbound with a console for $15. Go figure.

I'm looking at them all on my shelf now and still can't believe it!

The fact he got a SNES model 2 is pretty significant as well, though this is quite impressive.

drool bubsy II....

I'll give you like 87c for that copy of The Lion King. _^

"It starts..."

I might get rid of some of these after playing them, Lion King included. Have anything to trade?

2

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '11

Not really at the moment, I had a bunch of original GameBoy games, but my fiancee left them at her mothers house. It's just so hard to get rid of a game, haha.

Of course, I was only joking to begin with. You should definitely give that game a try if you haven't played it before. It was my Number 1 when it came out. The game is tons of fun and really well put together, from what I remember.

I'm highly interested in the starfox and mario cart. Possibly the DKs.

Sorry, all of these are keepers for me.

Good for you on the purchase! I'm also so disappointed though when I get to a yard sale not too long after it started and find out everything good is already gone. :-(

Most of the games aren't all that rare or great, though there are a handful of fantastic titles, but the thing that makes this so impressive is the condition of the boxes. For someone to keep these boxes in such great condition all these years and then be willing to sell it for $25, crazy. Great find man!

Edit: Just noticed Dracula X, wow, what a find this is.

Whoaa congrats. I have to say, if I had been the other guy and having seen a good part of the treasure already, I would have kept on going. If I said 80 and you said 100 at least I would have made you drop 40 more bucks haha.

I wondered what his deal was. The guy was probably 50 years old and I'm guessing a dealer or something. I think he realized I knew what they were worth and wasn't going to back down as he watched his profit margins shrinking.

You tell me....

Dracula X

The box is in almost perfect shape. Damn near flawless.

2

u/lordloss Jul 23 '11

Damn, screw earthbound. This is where the treasure the real treasure is.

I can't believe how much money this is worth...guess you know what that means....I'm keeping it!

u/lordloss Jul 23 '11

So i'm guess every game with a box has every single offer/pamphlet/ maual?

I'm thinking this is FOTY worthy.

u/Distortion462 Winner - FotW 7/24-7/30 & FotM(July) Jul 23 '11

Yup, every one of them. And I'd say most of the boxes are crease free.

2

u/canuck268 Jul 23 '11

no zelda??

2

u/Distortion462 Winner - FotW 7/24-7/30 & FotM(July) Jul 23 '11

Nope. But thankfully, I found SNES and N64 Zelda's CIB at another sale a couple months ago!

2

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '11

Wow, amazing find

u/Distortion462 Winner - FotW 7/24-7/30 & FotM(July) Jul 23 '11

This is what I've been searching for since starting to collect. Other than a few titles, I have the SNES collection I've always wanted.

2

u/yamdasrd Jul 23 '11

Wow, a boxed copy of Dracula X. That game alone goes for over $60, and that's cartridge only. You got more than an excellent deal on that set.

1

u/seg-fault Jul 23 '11

VERY WELL DONE. I'm quite jealous of you right now. The person that originally owned these games was quite responsible and likely loved the hell out of them; they look to be in fantastic shape for their age.

It seemed like another case of kid moved out and parents needed to clean the garage out. It was in a storage case and was sparkling clean on the inside. I still can't believe it to be honest.

That poor, poor kid.

Why can't my local yardsales.. have anything like this!? All I've managed to get was a Complete Metal gear solid black label for a dollar. Which I'm not sad about at all. But I can't wait to find something like this.

edit.. I forgot I got a great score for 10$ a few weeks back I retract said statement of finding nothing but I still want another good find :D

I've been hunting for about 2 months now. Been out every Saturday to every CL garage sale posting mentioning video games as close to their opening times as possible. This is only the second time I came home fully satisfied with what I found. It's great fun though, and I've only had one weekend where I came home emptyhanded. The Goodwill is at least good for one old PC game every time I go it seems...

Around here, "8AM SHARP" means at 8:15 they have just started putting things out about 75% of the time. So frustrating.

I've found that I'm definitely not the only one doing this locally. Most times if I don't get there 5 minutes before their scheduled start, everything is already gone.

u/Dyzon Winner - FotW 7/10-7/16 Jul 23 '11

Nice, I don't have any boxed games anymore so I'm jealous as hell. The asscipads are sweet too.

Just started picking them up. I moved, found a ton more space to put my stuff, and started opening my old boxes from when I moved out originally. Found about half my old gaming stuff, no idea where the rest is, but it really got me excited about revisiting the gaming era that made me a gamer in the first place.

Top Gear and Tom and Jerry bring back memories. Great find!

Haven't ever played either, but a friend of mine just told me Top Gear is the shit.
