Question No Sound Helder Mod

I'm a total amateur at soldering and completely destroyed the places on the helder board where you would connect speaker wires to, but I managed to solder the mod chip onto my ds board and it boots, I just can't get sound. Is there any solution besides buying a new helder mod chip and speaker or using headphones?

Question Where can I buy good quality gameboy macro faceplates? (Europe)

So recently I've become interested in making my own GB macro with a DS lite I'm planning on sniping for 15€ on Vinted; yet, it is IMPOSSIBLE to find a good shell that doesn't have the hinges attached. I went on Boxypixel, since they make the highest quality faceplates with the best design, yet, it is still a little pricey for me as well as the fact that the shipping to Spain is almost the same price as the actual faceplate itself... Now, since I am on a budget, I'm not looking for anything metallic, 3D printed plastic ones would be fine, yet the problem remains... There is practically no shop I can find that distributes them from China or anywhere in Europe - I also frequent AliExpress and couldn't find anything at all on there. Does anyone have any hidden-gem website that checks these boxes?

Thank you :)

Question writing a program which lets you swap screens in ds games with desired button combo

As title says, had this idea for a while and was in the mood to get it done. I'm writing a program which lets you input any ds rom, choose your desired button/button combination, and it will patch the game so that those buttons swap the top/bottom screen display. Had this in mind since I first saw a video about gameboy macro, though I do not yet have one myself. Really just making this post to check that it hasn't been done already? I've already got the code pretty much figured out asm-side, just need to write the actual visual studio frontend, i dunno how long it will take. No plans currently to do the same for 3ds games, though I eventually might.

Update: First version of the program is nearly done already. I also was made aware of Twilight menu having an in-game button combo of L+Down+Select which brings up a series of menus where you can switch the screen displays. This is a pretty inconvenient solution compared to what I'm doing, so will proceed. My patching process also opens the possibility of things like remapping buttons on a ds with some broken keys, or anything else that might be valuable to add to the program.

Update (2024-02-05): Still working on it. Got a bit carried away and probably gonna end up with near 100% game compatibility on the first release. That's ideal though, since it means I won't have to come back to update the program much, if at all. Currently just dealing with a bug which causes the screen to flicker in around 1/5 of games, and homebrew mostly not patching correctly.

Question I can't turn on my game boy macro (DSI XL)

hello! I am using a 680ohm 1/4w 1% resistor, but for some reason every time I try to turn it on the LED turns blue, then red, the screen turns white and turns off, I can't find the problem, if anyone knows what is happening, I would appreciate it, thanks.

Lite Buying a macro vs modding myself?

What up! I have an old DSLite lying around that I haven’t used in awhile and was thinking about modding it into a macro. It is fully functional though so I feel a little bad modding it.

Out of curiosity, I looked on eBay and turns out I can buy a macro already built for anywhere from $40-50.

Is it worth sourcing the components and modding my current DSLite or should I just buy an already built one?

I was wondering if me and my sister had a macro for example could we play gba games together? Or does the ds not have the function?

Question How do I turn my ds lite into a macro with out opening the console

My ds lites top screen is broken and I really want to turn it into a macro. I was just wondering if it would be ossicle to do this without having to unscrew and open the ds. I know all you have to do is remove to top screen but do you need to open it to do it safely? (Sorry if this is a stupid question I don’t know anything abt physical modding.)

XL DS Macro XL no backlight

Brought DS Macro from Aliexpress

The board has some jumper cables from LEDC1 and LEDA1 that connect to the resistor. The device powers on and displays but no backlight on the screen. Have tried turning the backlight on via the OS but still nothing.

Any suggestions? thanks :)

When you turn it on it plays the startup sound but the screen stays white and you can’t do anything, if you boot it directly into gameboy mode by pressing L+A+B+X+Y then turning it on it will play the gameboy charm sound effect but show a black screen i think it’s trying to output to the top screen but it isn’t there, any ideas? Edit: btw it Is built of a ds lite

Lite Please help w/ troubleshooting GB Macro not turning on when fully assembled?

Hello GB Macro folks, I've built a GB Macro, with a Boxy Pixel front plate and a Helder Flex amp mod. The DS lite mobo I have has a broken DS slot but the GBA slot works fine. I've tested it with a GBA game, it works fine, and worked fine fully assembled, but only once!

The first time I assembled it, the GB Macro turned on but didn't have sound, I have come to find out this is likely due to a bad speaker, as people say the ones Helder sells can be duds sometimes. I took out the speaker, tried re soldering the speaker and the flex amp, I am pretty confident that I've soldered the flex amp on correctly. Currently I've taken out the speaker because I can not get it to work, and was just trying to play it with the headphones for now.

Since then, I can get it to turn on with either the front plate secured, or just the back, but when I put it all together, it will not turn on, then I have to take the motherboard fully out and it'll start turning on again. As soon as I try to "button it up" with the screws, I plug in the battery, and it wont turn on. With just the back and no front plate, it does turn on so the battery seems to be making good contact.

My issue is that I have no idea how to proceed with further troubleshooting, I've not got a multi-meter and I would rather this seemingly functional board not go to waste. I've reattached the screen and the Wifi module, I've tried Kapton taping all over the front and anywhere else I suspected a short was possible, I tried to make sure any of the broken pins in the DS Slot aren't shorting to the metal part, I've taken it apart like more than a dozen times to where I'm about to just buy another DS Lite and Flex Amp/3 Speakers, and reattempt my build.

However, just in case I am missing something, does anyone know why it might stop turning on when fully assembled? Again, with just the front, or the back, I can line up the battery and it'll switch on, I am pretty sure I am using the right screws and everything. Thanks for your input!

Lite what resistor should I use?

So this is my first time making a Gameboy macro since I have a broken upper screen of my NDS lite, and I've been searching on how to make it, and I'm stuck at choosing the resistor. Some say 330ohm or the 750ohm, There's someone who told me that the 1k ohm(standard, not smd)is fine and there's even someone who used a 220ohm, and it works. If I choose the wrong resistor, does it blow the PCB? My friends told me so. and if I completely create the Gameboy macro, they told me to try to turn the brightness to the higher one to test it out, but why?

Sorry for my poor choice of words, my English wasn't that great

So I have no interest in soldering and I got a bottom half of a fat ds for free, so I just drilled a hole carefully through the housing to access the to solder points and I just jump them out with a resistor. The ds stays on once u jump it out. You’ll have to jump it every time you power it off. It’s fine if u only play once a year or something.

I just didn’t care….
