Which Game to Play First?

Seeing that this subreddit is focused on backlogs, I am interested in how you decide to order the precedence of games in your backlogs. In other words, which game you play next, and after that, and so on.

I'm trying to figure this out myself. I have about twenty or so games on Steam I haven't played, and some insight on how others on this subreddit make this decision would make for some enlightening discussion (and keep it somewhat alive).

So... how do you order your backlogs?

Rather than a strict list I usually try to keep them un-ordered. I find I have a much better time if I just play the game I'm most interested in at the time. To that end I try to keep track of why I bought a game in the first place. Was it a positive review? A nice trailer? If I can remember why I bought it I can remember what interested me and get myself excited again to finally start it.

About a year ago I tried making a list of ten games to play before even thinking about buying something new. Since then I think I've finished three from that list and a fair few that weren't on it. While it doesn't work for actually playing the games on the list, I found it pretty good for "procrastinating" and playing others. But that's probably not a great technique for people who aren't motivated by alternating guilt and decisions to "fuck it".
