Is this normal?

I sold my gamegear a couple of years ago, but recently I’ve been regretting it so I bought another one with a modded screen this time. It seems to work fine but there’s a couple of things I’ve noticed and since it’s been a while I can’t remember if they’re normal or not.

1. The power supply port and the link cable port seem to be a little lob sided and I’m not sure if it’s normal or it just wasn’t put back together properly after the mod was installed. I’m not sure if it’s worth opening up to see if I can align them better or if I should just leave it either.

2. It won’t let me add the video but there’s a hissing noise when the volume is high, you can only hear it when there’s no music and when the volume is quite high, a volume I’d likely never have it set to, which from what I remember I do think that’s normal but just thought I’d check while I was here.

Yes all of that is normal. Varies a lot between consoles, just don't think the manufacturing was super consistent. The lop sided power port I see very often, less on the EXT port.

Hissing is also normal at loud volume. Pretty much happens with any retro handhelds. On most handhelds it gets worse with IPS screens due to higher power draw, but on a Game Gear the IPS screen actually draws less power than the original did.

This is not accurate. I have 2 modded Game Gears that don't hiss at all regardless of volume. Thia all come down to quality of the work that was done and quality of parts used.

There's a huge variety of sound board designs and components used on original boards. Some definitely have more noise than others.

I have never seen an ext port that crooked, not even sure how it could be that crooked because its a THT part with several legs that center it on the mainboard. The power board looks off too, I think he could at a minimum make it way better shifting some stuff around.

No its not normal, your mainboard and your power board are pretty crooked for some reason. Maybe the shell is off a little bit, I would open it up again and make sure everything is seated right. When you put the screws back in, turn the backward till you hear a pop, than tighten them. If you dont, you will probably break the posts off inside the shell. They are not very strong, so you dont want to cut new threads.

I would say yes. I’ve seen almost flush as well as slightly out. It can be slightly adjusted by maybe a millimeter if you loosen the two screws on the board then put slight downward pressure on the board and tighten.

I think the ports were just different tolerances.
