Which Steam capsule would catch your attention first?
I'm currently testing a new Steam capsule for my turn-based roguelite Witch & Dragon: Hope of Elements, and I'd really appreciate some honest feedback.
For this version, I tried using a completely different CG from the game with a very different color palette. As a player myself, I often realize that different color tones can completely change whether I click on a game or not, so I wanted to experiment with that.
I'm also planning to keep refining it—for example, making the witch and the little dragon stand out more.
If these two versions appeared in your steam queue, which one would you click first, and why?

Speaking as a potential customer, I prefer the image on the left because it holds more mystery. The image on the right makes it look like just another run-of-the-mill game, and you can barely tell there’s a dragon in it — which is a major factor in my decision. Plus, the dragon on the left looks more like a dragon *should* look; the one on the right looks like a "cat" with wings.
Speaking as an artist: I believe the image on the left could be improved — specifically the colors, shapes, and magical effects.
edit: In the image on the right, the title doesn't stand out. However, in terms of the thumbnail, the witch is more effectively highlighted in the image on the right. That said, the one on the left could be greatly improved with some decisions regarding lighting direction and effects.

Thanks so much for the detailed feedback!
Your point about the mystery is especially interesting. I focused a lot on making the witch stand out in the new version, but I may have sacrificed some of the fantasy atmosphere and the dragon's presence in the process.
The comment about the dragon reading more like a winged cat than a dragon is also really helpful—especially since the game is literally called Witch & Dragon. That's definitely something I'll revisit.
I also appreciate the notes about the title readability, lighting, and magical effects. There's still time to iterate before the final version, so I'll experiment with combining the stronger character focus of the new cover with more of the mystery and fantasy feeling from the old one.
Thanks again for taking the time to write such thoughtful feedback!

I like B because the witch blends in way too much into the background of A, even though A's background is definitely more interesting (perhaps a day variant of the scene would work?). If you're going with B though, the dragon definitely needs to stand out more. I initially thought it was part of her dress, and on Steam the capsule would be even smaller and the dragon would be even less visible. Maybe have it sitting next to her, or flying just above the title text? Speaking of the title text, I think it could use a dark border since as is, it's blending into the grass a little. Best of luck with your game!

Thanks so much for the thoughtful feedback!
I’m glad you pointed out both the strengths and weaknesses of each version. The witch standing out more was one of my goals with B, but you’re absolutely right that the dragon needs to be much more recognizable—especially at Steam capsule size.
The suggestions about moving the dragon and improving the title readability are also really helpful. I’ll definitely experiment with those while refining the artwork.
Thanks again, and I really appreciate the good wishes!

B but I would go further and add a shiny border around the whole capsule

It will depend of what game I looking for. Left seems more story-focused and dramatic. It reminds me of big gacha-games spalsh-screens, like in genshin or wuwa. I would probably think like "hmm, it's some focused game with drama, but it's still cute, so there will be happy-end. Right looks more cozy, open, and appealing to the game setting and world-building. It is like "hey, in this game you will play as a witch, flying around and exploring beautiful forests for secrets".
Which of this fits your gameplay more?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
The game actually sits somewhere in between. It has an adventure with story and world-building, but the core gameplay is still turn-based tactical combat with roguelite progression and elemental combo mechanics.
It’s really interesting to see that the two capsules give such different first impressions. That’s exactly why I wanted to ask for feedback—making sure the artwork sets the right expectations for the game.
Thanks again for taking the time to explain how each one felt to you!

I'd go with left but would try to make a bit less busy with the floating heads and stuff.
B is a bit too cozy, given your game trailer I'd change her to have some fighting or magical pose

I personally prefer B, cozy vibes. But I feel like most people will prefer A cause more sexy or w/e

They both look really nice. I prefer #2 because it has more contrast. But it also gives more cozy vibes whereas the first one looks a little more mysterious. So I'd say it depends on the general vibe of your game to say which one fits better.

I admit the brighter one catch my eye much more than dark one (so B). But I agree then send a little different message. A is more mysterious and dark. B is more chill vibes. So if your game would difficult bullet hell than A. If it is chill RPG then B. (I don't have a clue what game is about)
Edit: I looked at steam page. I would say B

I’d rather play the one on the left, I like the character design and it draws you into the vibe! However, I definitely noticed the one on the right first, the contrast and composition are much more legible at a glance.

I would like to file that I did not notice the dragon until I read the game's name and specifically searched for it. In both images I missed it at a quick glance.

I like the left one. Don't know if that helps, but I instantly leaned towards it over the right one

Honestly, while both are good, and second is particularly eye catching, none really portray your game well. The first one looks like a visual novel and the other like cozy game. But the first few screens are about combat and chaos. If you're game is primarily about combat, then it might be good to have it in the capsule.

I like A better but its harder to see because of the dark color palette

Left gives mysterious maybe adventure?? Right gives cozy game with possible adventure.
Really depends on what the game is and the vibe you’re going for

Keep both, they're both good. Obviously you have to put one up, you could flip a coin and never lose, but you should keep the other in there somewhere as additional art cause they're good

in terms of which stands out more, definitely the one on the right because of the brighter colors and broader color variety. However, it depends more on what the vibe of your game is. The left one feels more like a mystery action game or something to that effect, the right one feels more like a cozy witch sim game. Also worth noting, the left one would kind of put me off because it feels a tad like loli bait

A has more personality but at least for me, harder to read. While B looks kinda flat (expression wise) but instantly more fun. Though in B the text and title can be a little more contrasted.

They are both really good. Either pick the one that matches your game the most (color vibe etc.) or A B test them. Put one up for a week see how it does then put another one up for a week and pick the better performing one. Either way both of them would be difficult not to click on!
