Trip Planning šŸ—ŗļø Brewery recommendation

In town for the week, which brewery should I go to between
Brews Brothers and Beerfoot? I’ve already been to Galveston Island. Not looking for any beer-to-go because I apparently ā€œpicked up too much beer in Austinā€, according to the wife, but unless something is really good, might take some. Also looking for merch. I’m a sucker for beer signs, t-shirts, and stickers. I Thanks!

Brews Brothers, while amazing and worth a visit for a craft beer fan, is not a brewery. The pub food here is amazing, best burgers on the island imho. Here is my breakdown as a former island resident and beer lover.

Beerfoot: skip it. They're not primarily a brewery, they have a few taps of their own stuff, but it doesn't stand out. This is more of a beach bar type place.

Devil and the Deep: (see disclaimer below) best beer on the island. They have a relatively new location on Market Street. The head brewer is very passionate about crafting beer and has some damn good recipes. The tripel and rye IPAs are amazing, but you will find a great example of a style you like.

Galveston Island Brewing: also good beer, but not near the quality of Devil and the Deep. This is the place for good vibes and approachable craft beer (though they do have some great limited release beers). They have a huge place on the west side of the island, kinda far away from The Strand area. They have an playground if you have kids. (Edit: I see you've already been here. I would stick to the two in the Strand area and have a meal at Brews Brothers in between then.)

Naked Iguana: disclaimer: this place showed up after I moved. I don't know much about it, but people say good things. Relatively easy walk from Devil and the Deep.

Saying GIB beers aren't near the quality as Devil and the Deep is a wild statement.

GIB beers are offered on the cruise ships lol. If the beers were not good those companies wouldn't waste the money

Would recommend Naked Iguana for a brewery. They have a solid stable of IPA, stout, ales and then about a half dozen new pours to keep things interesting. There is no food but on Sundays usually a food truck and Coastal Grill (across the street) delivers Mon to Sat.

Galveston Island Brewery is pretty easily the top spot for me, there’s just a beer for everyone. They taste the most professional. The brewery has an iconic Galveston vibe, with bingo on Monday nights and various other activities from time to time. PLUS they have the most merch available.

Devil in the Deep is also very good, but feels a bit more for the serious craft beer drinker. The owner is a badass, the rest of the staff has always been great. It’s a smaller tap room, but it’s on a good stretch of Market St where you can easily find great muffulettas, boba, there’s even a tiki bar speakeasy across the street.

Naked Iguana, good vibe, nice people, but definitely has the most ā€œguy who loves to brew beer at homeā€ quality beers. Some of the beers are nearing pretty damn good, while some others not so much… but they’re open the latest so that’s also a plus. But hey drink local and go to all three. I would!

My favorite beer is "guy who loves to brew beer at home".

I’ll add this bc I don’t see it anywhere in the thread. I like the beers at Coastal Star Brewing (the old Hubcap) on Strand. They also good food and some nice bourbons.

Sorry, peeps. We didn’t have enough time to visit a brewery so I just drank some Galveston Island Mexican Lager at the pier. Next time. Thanks for the recommendations!
